I've heard that these two registers have some different statutory requirements - such as one has a reply deadline of 28 days for Ofsted complaints whereas the other has a different time frame. Obviously if you're on both registers you have to meet all / both sets of statutory requirements. Before I spend time trawling through both documents has anyone already done the research? if you've done the research already and know the answer can I copy your homework? I'll swap my best pencil for it... or my crisps at playtime... thanks pw1

Hi Everyone How do others manage with staff that do not / will not / want to adopt the principles of the EYFS. I have seven staff who are all fantastic, but one all fights any changes and it is wearing me down. I have been at my setting for 2 years after finishing my Foundation Degree, she has been at the setting for 10 years, but doesn't have any early years qualifications. At the end of last half term, I had to speak to her because she had only completed 1 observations out of a possible 21 for her 7 keychildren since september. (perhaps i should have spoke to her earlier but I work everyday in the ratios except for Friday and I have 9 keychildern myself). …

Following our Inspection recently the Inspector has asked that we fit an alarm to the doors into the main hall we use to alert us if children go out wthout us noticing. We are in a church hall and obviously are limited to what the church will allow but she has said some settings have small magnectic alarm fitted which you can turn on/off? Has anyone any idea where I can get one from? We also have to put a bolt on a walk in cupboard where equipoment is stored which is the main hall. smiles

Sen In Early Years
by Guest- 13 replies

I'm back again with another question, sorry! Our deputy has recently been appointed as SENCo, she's great and very keen. I'm wondering what the differences are between identifying, assessing and dealing with SEN in early years, as opposed to what I'd expect to do in a school. If a child was exhibiting low level behaviour issues, say, would we talk with parents and do an IEP, or just note our observations in his profile? And what if something more serious crops up, do we bring in ed psych and that sort of thing, or is that all a bit full on for a part time pre school setting. Thanks in advance for your advice. Oh, one more thing, I'm going to check if she's …

HI everyone, i'm new to this site and have never posted before. i am also new to nursery management and feel it's really important to involve parents as much as possible, especially working parents. i have done parent questionniares and am organising an open day, i just wondered if any one else has any suggestions as obviously parents know best how they would like to be involved, especialy dads as they can be hard to reach. many thanks Hannah

Registers

HI registers, how do they work for you? currently we have sigining in sheets for the parents to complete. although a few parents forget. we then have a room register which the staff keep and a whole nursery register (which senior team mark off)where we highlight the child's / staff name when they arrive (currently no process for marking off when they leave, which again i know should be happening. i need a fool proof way ( you don't know my deputy! LOL) of how to ensure the register is maintained and that children are marked in (and some how marked out) each day. what do other settings use?. we are a day nursery, with four rooms, children come and go at…

Smelly Sand

What does everyone do about keeping sand clean? Ours gets smelly very quickly, and there seems to be issues with spending a lot of money on sand. I've heard the children being told not to add water to the sand!! I want to challange this, but need to have a solution ready first. At my old place I think they used to mix diluted Milton into it. Does anyone else do this and how effective is it? Or is it a case of having to just keep buying the stuff, same as glue and paint? I think our sand is brought from Tesco, is there anywhere else where you can get it cheaper?
