Target Board

hi can anyone help me we recently had an ofsted inspection and they advised us to get rid of one of our display boards that displays the children's targets. We tried to argue that they are there for the parents to see when ever they wish but they was having none of it. i do agree with them to a certain extent so can anyone suggest any other ways of displaying the children's targets for the parents to see without using one of the display boards and also without putting them outside as we do not want parents viewing other childrens targets. thanks kate

Hi All, I'm going to be running some training on the Enabling Environment within a nursery setting for practitioners across my borough. I have a 'vague' summary for the day which may include: What does an enabling environment look like Routine of the day and are they necessary? snack time Vs snack bar adult led and child led activities role of the practitioner outdoor environment open-ended play If anyone has any other ideas, resources, training that I could have a look at, they would be much appreciated. I also need to build up a website, books and resources list. I have the learning through landscapes and community playthings websites so far, so…

Access To Water?
by Guest- 27 replies

Hi all our last Ofsted report recommended that we improve the children's access to water. We ask parents (verbally and in our info booklet) to supply a sports bottle for their children but out of 20 only 3 have done so. We keep sending reminders in the newsletters but have decided that we are going to have to sort something out ourselves now to ensure the children get the access they need. Would you all be kind enough to tell me what works for you - bottles, cups, jug?? Children are 2 1/2 to 5 years. Thanks RR

What Sort Of Camera ?
by Guest- 21 replies

We've been looking a Camera's for the children at our preschool and I thought I ask others their opinions to what you are using with the children in your settings. So far we have thought about a Vtech / Fisher Price or Little Tikes children’s camera. However I let the children loose on Monday with the practitioners camera, which has questioned which could be the best sort of camera for the children to use. Picture quality and so on, need to be thought about as my own child has a Fisher price one and the picture quality on the LCD screen is not great. We are looking around the £50 price tag. Looking forward to you views

Mark Making 'books'

Good Afternoon Everyone!! I am feeling a little deflated having had an afternoon of feedback from our Early Years Development workers. I know it is their job to be critical and I do agree with a lot that was said, but I can't help feeling that all my hardwork has been overlooked in favour of many negative comments and ways to improve!! The main reason for my post is for some justification on the use of 'mark making books' and the positivities that they pose? By mark making i mean the little red books with the lines known as 'handwriting books' ..... What are your views? ....remember, i am in a preschool setting Do other settings use these or something simila…

Hi We are a small nursery within a primary school but the nursery is undersubscribed while the rest of the school is over subscribed. My Head wants me to "market" the nursery more within the community to raise it's profile and encourage more families to send their children. Can anyone help me with some ideas? Next year is our 5th anniversary so I thought we could do quite alot around that but I'm a bit short on ideas for the rest of this year. Thanks

Slippers Or Shoes?
by Guest- 12 replies

Can you tell me if your children wear slippers when at nursery or do they stay in shoes? I have recently taken over a nursery and have decided to change their long standing 'slipper' policy to shoes. The main reason for doing this is to fufill the EYFS requirements of having free flow play between the inside and outside environments. We have two cloakrooms (as we are in an old school building) and because we have a rather large garden when we operate free flow we can really only do it in a fenced off area of the garden which only one of the cloakrooms ahs access to. So this means that the chidlren in the far corridor have to carry their wellie boots through th…

Hello all, do any of you have either experience of or knowledge of level 2 training? I'm finding it really difficult to access information about level 2 training for our cover staff, one of whom has playworker level 2 but needs to do his early years and another who has just finished her fine arts degree. they are both mid to late 20s. I mention this because we have a work experience student who, for some unknown reason, is doing his level 3! He's 18 and has no clue at all. Our 2 cover staff, however, are more than capable practically; lots of common sense and some initiative. I'd be happy for them to do the training remotely and can offer lots of support, but not finan…
