Hi everyone I am just updating our exclusion period poster but have found that i don't agree on some points with the poster we should be using (here) What do you all use? The main points that i am confused about are that there is no exclusion period for the following: Cold Sores Hand, Foot and Mouth Diesease Slapped Cheek Conjunctivitis Tonsilitis All of our parents go by this poster and i had quite a heated discussion with a parent today, as i sent her child home with conjunctivitis and said she could not return for 24 hrs from the onset of treatment (this is now in my policy from Sept - i got it from PLA), but it obviously contradicts the poster!

Water Mat

Hello all I am new to my 0-3 setting and am a big fan of water play! The children in the setting are too. They keep getting their fix from the taps as the water tray is not available. The room is for crawlers and toddlers so the staff found they have to constantly mop up so the crawlers didn't get soaking wet. I have heard of a mat that absorbs water and is antibacterial, hence the constant mopping won't be necessary. Does anyone know where they are available? Would love your help. Thanks

A parent was watching me let the children stir water into compost, whilst I was encouraging them to squeeze the mud into squelchy ball. Nothing unusual really. Parent just looked at me, shook her head and said that she could imagine me running a nursery in the woods with lots of children and we would all be sooo so happy without a care in the world .......BLISS BUT ............the children would be all dirty with runny noses NOT SO GOOD

Hi all Yes I know! Well background is that we are a commitee run pre-chool that takes place in a wi hut right next door to a fantastic primary school. We have close links with the primary (al staffs children go there!...im on the PTA!) as we use them for our lunch club, they have a separate outdoor learning area for foundation stage which we use after lunch. Thing is for years the pre-school have been trying to get into the school (after chool club already there). However, no room at the moment. Head apparently has tried to buy out the wi hut (offered them another new one somewhere else in village) but they refuse to sell. Now an action group is to be set up (committe…

Nursery Observation -ideas Please
by Guest- 4 replies

I'm being observed for an hour and my line manager wants to see a proper nursery 'lesson'. She didn't like my past session where I allowed it to be how a nursery should be, feel like I'm banging my head against a brick wall!! I'm completely stuck on what to do in each area that will be successful. Does anyone have any tried and tested ideas that can link to a story?

School Closure - Staff Get Paid? 1 2

Bit of a difficult one and wanted to get some other opinions before I face the committee! We are paid set hours and overtime if agreed in advance. So we are paid until the session ends (at 12.30) although we always stay at least 15 - 30 minutes due to late parents (the committe chair!!) and to tidy up. We dont get paid for this. Anyway, the school was closed on Tuesday so the treasurer mentioned we wont get paid, however my view is that if we are paid set hours, this should be the case in a closure too! afterall the parents still pay for their child to attend even though we were closed! and both staff had to still pay for their own children's childcare.
