I'm uploading our template in case it helps anyone. We are making resources to support children's interests eg Superheroes - you can just do something simple like copy and paste from google images inside the square, resizing where necessary. Very simple and you've probably all done it for yourselves, but thought I'd upload it just in case. It's a 15cm square. beebot_card_template.doc

Communication Problems

Hello. This is my first proper post.. so sorry if I've put it in the wrong place or anything. And sorry if it's too long I've been working in my setting for just over a year now. When I first came to work there, the setting was owned by a close family friend, and managed by the friends friend who I knew fairly well. But after about 4 months the owner decided to sell and the manager left too. The new owner is working in the setting now, and is a good friend of one member of staff. During the first couple of months after I came to the setting I had huge problems working with one member of staff, she wouldn't talk to me and she'd avoid eye-contact so I was unable …

Hi all, I'm trying to find out what the average pay is for those working in preschool settings in the PVI sector. All of our key staff are qualified to DPP level 3; each holds an officer position eg CP, SENco, ENCO, H & S; and all are paid extra to cover doing learning journeys, but this is incorporated into their salary as is 4 weeks paid holiday. I think theyare paid well and expect each learning journey to take no more than 20 minutes to complete. Each staff member has 12 key children and I have asked they have at least 4 learning journeys up to now from september. Am I asking too much? How much work do you expect your staff to do in their own time? We do planni…

hi everyone just wanted some advice on letters and sounds/ phonics, my children are aged 3- 4.5 and i was under the impression i use phase 1 letters and sounds for this age? is that correct? i feel under pressure to be introducing phonic work from parents/management/ other team members and im getting confused as to what to do. alot of my children take an interest in letters/ writing that they see and often ask questions about words and letters and most are attempting writing their names, but i dont think many are ready for oral /blending yet and i think most of their parents (obviosuly keen to get them reading and writing as soon as poss) do tr…

I sent a questionnaire out begining of january and a lot came back saying parents would like to help out in sessions - which is fine by me, I relly think this should be encouraged. The only problem with this is that at the moment we have 2 very "challenging" children and we are worried that parents will come in and help, see how these 2 children behave and take their own children out of the setting One of the children is worse than the other, she started in october and she will not do a thing she is told, she has her nice side I have to admit but when it comes to a time where she HAS to do soemthign or we need to put away what she has got, or it's time to sit for sto…

Hand Washing Or Wipes? 1 2
by Guest- 44 replies

Hi Was just wondering if instead of handwashing for snack time did anyone use wipes or that antibacterial jelly like stuff (??). It was just offered as a suggestion from a friend who works in a nursery. If we could use wipes on hands instead it would free up a member of staff who keeps having to go back and fowards at snack time to the toilets (separate room). Or is this a big no no for OFSTED? In fact thinking of this do you use wipes or cotton wool ballss when changing nappies???? Surely if you use wipes then wipes could be used on hands? Just thinking aloud Any comments please.

Work Experience Placements

Hi. Help needed please. We have been approached regarding taking a Year 9 boy on work experience placement. Whilst I'm generally happy to have this lad I am aware that he has several facial piercings, including his tongue. Do you ever ask anyone to remove piercings? Is this acceptable/legal etc. I guess I could ask him to wear small, non-decorative ones rather than the flashy coloured ones but I think I might be on dodgy ground..... What would you do or say?! Thanks

Snack Time
by Guest- 18 replies

Our children (most aged 2 to 3) are asked to sit down together for snack time in my setting which is fine by me. However my problem is that it sometimes goes on for so long, with a rule that no one can get down until the last child has finished eating and drinking, and then the children get so bored. They all start wandering off and we have to take them back to the table, and tell them to sit still. Snack time generally ends when there as so many children are wandering off that staff have no hope of getting them all back, rather than any definate 'you can all get down now'. There must be a better way I can suggest we do things, (bearing in mind that my colleagues a…
