Does anybody either charge for snack or ask for donations of fruit? It seems to be an area where we could be cutting costs. I have thought about putting a fruit basket out and asking for donations but with our current parents I really am not sure that we would get any, or it would be the same few supplying it all the time. If any of you charge for snack, how much do you charge and is it not a nightmare chasing payments? Would be really interested to hear what you do.

Hi all I have been asked to review and redo our report template to cut down the workload (hurray!) I was looking through the statutory guidance for anywhere that said about reporting to parents at end of year and I cannot see anything for Nursery year. Can anyone point me in the direction of examples (had a look on TES website and here but they are quite old). How do other go about writing end of year reports? Currently we have one side with colour photo of child and their drawing; inside there is the standard LA age band highlighting system e.g. working within/securely in a band, and comments for each area of learning; plus child's comments and teachers comments. …

I have received a flyer from a local company that is starting up visiting nurseries, children centres etc and taking bookings for parties. They have reptiles for children to handle. A member of staff recalls hearing (she thinks from Druscillas in East Sussex) that children under 5 should not handle reptiles. Do you know anything about this? V

Hi everyone, I know we all strive for an outstanding, but I am curious to find out from those of you lucky enough to have been awarded outstanding what it has done for your nursery? Did interest from parents pick up? Did you get an immediate uplift in children registering? Did you find it easier to recruit staff? Perhaps you didn't notice much difference at all! Would love to know anything at all as to how it changed your nursery!

So, just read on twitter that the foundation years are looking at getting staff to brush the childrens teeth...... Can someone please tell me just when do parents take responsibility for their own children? Just when am I supposed to find time to brush 20 sets of teeth as well as ensure that each child has suncream on before going outside (or even a sunhat???!!), can independently go to the toilet, eats some healthy snack as has only had a chocolate bar for breakfast, all before I start with my "teaching" that I am supposed to do in the sapce of 3 hours! Can you tell I am starting to feel the pressure of being a potential parent to all the children coming through my pre…

A child joined us about 3 weeks ago. Has been to another setting for a year prior to joining us. The child will not pull down or up pants or trousers flatly refuses. Other setting said just did this for child and mum does the same. I'm encouraging child to do own clothing and know child can do clothing when dressing dolls etc. The other day I used child's guiding it to help pull up pants.....after which child pulled them back down and said no you do it! Clearly child can do pants and trousers but refuses. Child is very stubborn. Joins in with everything else really well. I've tried rewards, other children encouraging, other staff taking, encouraged.... I'm …

We have a child (44 months) who is emerging 22-36 and developing 22-36 in Mathematics and just on the cusp of emerging 30-50 in Literacy. She hasn't got a grasp on any colours, shapes or numbers. We play games to try and make it fun and there is no consistency in how she gets them wrong. You can tell her what the colour is and she will still get it wrong! We are working on numbers 1-5 and again you can show her the number, tell her what it is and she will still get it wrong. She is only interested in role play and will only come to play a game or do an activity with you if another one of her friends is there but spends most of the time looking at what is going on …
