Hi all, Just doing alittle bit of the old planning and wondered if anyone has any ideas for resources to use with a flat light panel. We also have 3 posts in a triangle shape outside in the yard. They are about 2 metres apart and we usually loop rope through them to make dens or reading area and also washing line for numbers and clothes. I am waiting for some perspex being delivered to fasten to 2 of them to allow children to paint onto and spread gloop etc on but wondered if anyone has any ideas for the posts? Cheers

Hi all, I haven't been on the forum for absolutely ages and hope you are all well. Today we have had a meeting and have been going through our self-evaluation tool-kit ("Moving On"). One area where we think we can improve is in maximising the involvement of parents (we have great relationships with them but feel we could do more on a practical level). Most specifically, I'd be interested to know to what extent ,and how, you enable parents to contribute to the children's profiles. I'd love to know what works for you. Ann x

Hi not sure if anyone can help me, quite a long time ago, probably about 4 or 5 years ago, there was a fantastic post made about the benefits of a rolling snack. It described in detail what it was like for children to have to stop what they were doing and compared it to an adult going shopping on a saturday morning (i think!). I am almost sure it was Peggy who posted thios although not certain. Can anyone point me in the right direction??

Within my room, there are four permenant members of staff (including myself) and another member of staff who does our break and lunch cover each day during term time. She is starting to become a a real issue within our room as (I know this sounds mean) but she is just completely and utterly useless! She is a 40 something year old woman who seems to have no common sense at all. She has worked in the setting for over a year now, and is qualified level 2 now (which you really wouldnt believe!!) and has worked in my room for about 9 months continously and still does not seem to have a clue. She asks the most silliest questions, like "shall I wipe their faces now?" wh…

Hi there l was told today at training that nursery should not have fixed sleeping time for toddlers or babies, due to the unique child aspect. The advisory teacher said that they should sleep when they what to and not "force", but have a comfy corner for them to go to. I would appreciate your comments on this, we are open form 8 - 6, what do you do in your settings. sleep time is when staff can on break, but what they are saying is that children should not be made to go to sleep just because it is convienent for the staff. I have just been reading about this topic that was posted in 2007. I work at different venues, on 3 occasions I have found medication in bags kept at child level, available for children to investigate. On one occasion it was a cocktail of calpol, cough linctus and ibuprofen in the same bag. I now take it upon myself to check bags or ask parents each time I work at a setting where children have access to bags. I include this information when I train first aid.
