We have been chosen to have a display of the childrens work in our local library. The display will be up for 1 month and the aim (from our point of view) it to advertise the Pre-School. But parents will hopefully take their children along to the library to see their work too. any ideas what the display could be?? I am trying to think of something relevent (the display will be in Feb) colourful, fun and easy for the children... any ideas very welcome!!! Thanks

hi there, help! i work with another practitioner in a pre school room. she makes decisions without consulting me and makes snide comments about how i do things like 'not putting the lid on the barbie box'. she is level 2, i am an eyp in a level 3 role. I want to make sure that we have a weekly meeting/conversation about planning and what our intentions are each week. how do i do this? thanks!

Hi again! I have our classroom set up in areas of provision and we are finding ourselves constantly reminding children to stay within their area especially for constructions and role-play. We are flexible with this e.g. if they are engrossed in creating a model which is taking up more room than normal or are testing their cars I allow them to spread out but if they've just decided to build their model on the play-dough table I ask them to go back to the construction area. Similarly the role-play tends to spread itself around both rooms often developing into children running (which is dangerous in our smallish rooms) so we ask them to go back to the role-play areas. I am …

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone for all the help and advice I have been given and have found around the board since I found out I was taking over a few weeks ago. The first week is done and dusted and it was fantastic, I've introduced quite a few different little changes and new things and there has only been positive feedback from the parents and staff A big thing I am trying to change though which the staff are not very forthcoming about is the key worker system. I sent a detailed parents questionaire home throughout the week and have had lots back, almost all of them mentioned they would like more information about how their child is getting on - I to…

Hi, I would like to know how other people start their session? Currently, I don't 'take' a register - the children self-register and go straight into free-play. This allows me and my TA to be around to greet children and parents and then we fill in the register after we close the door at 8.45am. (I'm in a school nursery). I'm thinking that I might start 'calling' the register to ensure that each child has had a personal welcome (and to get them ready for doing this in Reception) but am not sure what to do before all the children come in. I feel it is a long time for the children to sit on the carpet while they are waiting for others to arrive as well as taking one of t…

Am I Being Unreasonable

Hi all I have a personal 'thing' where i believe that the staff should not be sat with their backs to the wall, unless sat with a child and reading, or feeding a bottle etc, but definatly not when the children are no where near them. now my deputy disagrees with me and says that some staff need to have their backs against the wall (i understand this and if they can substantiate this need with a medical note then fine!, but otherwise i feel they should display open and inviting body language. I have raised this issue a few times and have now got to the stage where if i see staff with backs against wall (and no children near) then i will take them in office and rais…

Advice About Different Ages!

Hi Well just looking for some more free advice! Background......Our numbers have dropped significantly in the last 3 months. I was due to lose my job but other assistant thankfully dropped to part time and we job share. So now everyday there is a supervisor and deputy (NVQ3 qualified) and either myself (preschool diploma in training) or other assistant (NVQ2 in training). The committee only recently put the fees up to £6.95 (an extra pound) but still less than funding. Got 25 children on the roll and the most we have in on any one day is 15. Of those 25, only 7 are girls leaving 18 boys!! We also have a maximum of 4 under 3yrs in per day (all boys!). The commit…

I want to produce an information booklet or leaflet for new parents using our creche. I'm not sure of all the things I need to cover - could anyone help or be willing to share theirs please?? So far I have thought of: - contact info, session times, fees and how to book, and restrictions on booking - listing what parents need to bring including need to label coats and bags, need for coats and hat in winter as we usually go outside daily, applying suncream in the summer - settling in - where to find a copy of all our policies - a bit about our routine including snack time - complaints - dropping off and collecting procedures - bit about our aims and eyfs - m…
