Goodevening - wondered if anyone can help? We are a pack away group and currently have a wire book rack which folds flat for storage , unfortunately it has broken due to moving it in and out of our store each day . I wonder what others in a similar situation use as we dont want to resort to boxes of books as displaying them in some way does seem more inviting - thanks in advance Lizzy

HI all Hope everyone had a good xmas, and happy new year! just wondering what other settings do when washing bedding and flannels. we wash flannels after single use on a 60 degree wash, and bedding is washed on a 60 degree wash too. is this hot enough, or not..... i am obviously rather aware of being 'kinder' to the enbvironment and if we could lower the wash temperature we would. is there any guidance on this? Tooth Brushing

Hi can any one shed light since i am getting conflicting messages. a dentist hyginest (spelling???) has said that children only need to brush their teeth twice a day (presumably this would take place at home) since they can have too much flouride.... however, we have in the past held a dental hygiene certificate for brushing our children's teeth. (i have not renewed it as yet!) right now staff are asking me for clarification on this one..... we find tooth brushing time consuming in the younger rooms (toddlers ~ 1-2 years), and in the other rooms the children tend to eat the toothpaste despite us asking them not to. i am also not happy with how the tooth b…

Barefoot Or Not?

Hi everyone, Just a quick question. Do you allow your children to walk about the playschool without shoes? Personally, I don't think they should, but my colleague doesn't agree. My argument is that their toes could get trodden on or that they, or someone else, could drop something on them. And also to have to put 20 pairs of shoes on at the end of the day is very time consuming I'd really appreciate your views as I'm starting to question myself as to whether or not I'm being unreasonable.

Hello all! I have just got a job as a Deputy Manager of a private day nursery (0-5 years) and am starting my induction next week. I've got a fairly good knowledge of EYFS thanks to my PGCE (Early Years) I've just finished, but am very nervous about the huge role I'm about to undertake! Is there anything I should read up on to help me prepare for the role of Deputy Manager? I've been making my way through the forums here as a starting point, but was wondering if anyone could help me as there are an awful lot of you with lots of experience who could pass on some pearls of wisdom. Thanks in advance! Rosey x

In my setting we are fortunate enough to have an excellent garden which the children (2and a half to 4yr olds) have free flow access to for upto an hour and a half each day. Now the weather has turned much colder I have an issue with coats! I believe that insisting on wearing coats outside (unless its raining) can interrupt a child's flow and diminish their learning experience. An adult can remind them to put on a coat or fleece (particularly the younger children).. but I don't think we should insist on it and refuse access to the garden if a child refuses to wear a coat. In my experience, when a child feels the cold they will go back inside or put on anot…
