Self Evaluations
by Guest- 9 replies

Hi Just before we broke up for the holidays our new committee handed out self evaluation forms for staff to complete - we were given 24 hours to complete and return them. There was also an accompanying letter explaining that our contracts were to be updated and that any potential pay rise would be decided by the committee after discussion of our evaluations. We should have been told of the outcome by the end of term but will find out when we go back in Jan. I dont have a problem with the evaluation part but I am a bit concerned that any wage increase, or lack of it, will be decided on the basis of a few short answers on a hastily filled out form. Is this how other se…

Adults Outside

I'm sorry if this has been discussed before, but I'd appreciate a bit of advice. I teach in a school Nursery and as a part of continuous provision, I let the children choose if they wish to learn in or outside. this makes it necessary for one of us to be in inside and the other to be outside. I plan it so one week I'm outside, the next week it is one of my part time TAs. We swop as necessary to complete tasks or as things crop up. Today the one TA refused to go outside for more than half an hour. Saying the Union had said it was unreasonable in these weather conditions. I and the other TAs have all done this for the hour and a quarter required and have just put on extra l…

Interview Help Please!
by Guest- 17 replies

I have applied today for the position of Teaching Assistant in a reception class starting in January. I saw the job advertised on the local authority site and dashed to the school to apply because the cut off point was 12 today. I had to fill the forms in, which was fine, but then I had to write a covering letter off the top of my head! I have a standard one on the computer which I print off and adapt according to the roles I am applying for, but I was somewhat unprepared today! Anyway, I have been invited to attend an interview this coming Tuesday whereby I have to read a story to the children currently in reception which gets them involved. The recommendation is tha…

hi guys- help! my NA won't let the children take one toy from an area and use it in another- we have a small room with 14 children- e.g. child wanted to take a train and run it in the cornflour to see the tracks it has made. i think this was a fantastic opportunity and praised/joined in. NA went a bit off the deep end and shouted 'who has got cornflour on the trains????' 'no more trains in here!' they get washed every night and sterilised every week- where is the harm and how do i prevent this/pull her up on it in a calm and understanding way so she won't get offended??? i'm new to the room and her superior but it is not hierarchical - help!!! tha…

Hi all, sorry me again. Well we had our big meeting last night (and the early hours of this morning) It all went ok and I officially took over from january as supervisor but I do have a few questions which were raised last night, I wonder if anyone can help me with them please? I tried calling ofsted but they are not open at the weekends. So, firstly a bit of back ground. We have 2 rooms in a village hall, the smaller room is for 2-3 year olds, the larger room is for 3year olds to school age. This is where it now gets complicated, because the current supervisor is leaving we will go down to only having 2 level 3 wualified staff, may worries are: If on…
