How Does Everyone Else Cope
by Guest MaryEMac- 13 replies

We have for the first time enrolled a child from the Czech Republic who has little English. Mum has a little English and is interested in the playgroup. I know that we can use signs and that she will pick up things from the other children but she will be going to school next year and I really want to help her so that she has a smooth transition. Has anyone got any hints? I would really appreciate it. Thanks, Mary

I need advice please for tomorrow. I have a very challenging child who attend my pre-school.He is 3.6 months and been attending for 9 months. His parent is aware of the situation. He really can't adapt to being in a group and just wants attention all of the time. This cause him to be spitefull and generally disruptive, he quite regularly wets himself when he is told off. Last week he bit a staff member. I explained the situation to his Mum. She said that he had been challenging at home. So between us we made a star chart. It was successful for a while but this week things are not good with him in pre-school. When I talk to his mum at the end of the session he just screams t…

Hi I want to purchase a frame for our role play area. The only one I can find at the moment is from Galt/Hope but don't like using them as have had problems with their invoicing department before. The one I have found is this one. playhouse Two questions for you ~ 1 ~ If you have this one can you use it not square like this as my role play area is bigger than this so wanted to use it across 2 sides using the existing walls as the other 2 sides? Hope that amkes sense. 2 ~ Do you know anywhere else where I can get something like this? Thanks Debbie x

What do other setting staff do together (if anything) at Christmas? We generally all go out somewhere to have a meal and dance, mingle and chat. Everyone pays for themselves. I have heard that other settings pay for their staff party? What about Christmas bonuses? Ours are based on the input of individual staff throughout the year, eg. extras like writing up the register each term, washing and repairing, etc. We write a thank you card, emphasising the value of their commitment, and bonuses are anything from £5 to £30 - not a lot, but it's all we can afford! We would really like to support staff morale, so would be interested to know what others do. Many thanks.

have a child who can be very aggressive if things dont go his way, eg if he doent wnat to come in from outdoor play for lunch, he will bite, hit, swear, kick, shout in adults face etc we have noticed it is when he dosnt want to do something so ensure we give plenty of warnings and time beofre things change or happen and we are introducing a visual timetable. there are othr problems too though he doesnt really eat, mum thinks it is a phobia of some foods so she gives him whatever he wnats or whatever sh knows h will eat (sandwichs, pizza, fish fingers) but he eats none of the nursery food and she doesnt want us to prepare any speacial meals for him. sh…

Rubella And Pregnancy...
by Guest- 8 replies

Hello Just wondering what you would do in this situation? A member of staff may (may not) be pregnant, one of the children at the shool attached to our pre-school has had Rubella (she has a brother in our pre-school) This member of staff is unsure if she can come into work next week, but Rubella is spread 7 days before any signs of the illness so she will already have been in contact with her brother and maybe her in this time. She asked if we should suggest the younger brother stays off for this week until we are sure he hasn't got it (another mum is also pregnant so we need to protect her as well) Can we do this - our illness policy is very unclear and the chair is…

We routinely collect information as to the child's GP when they register. Is this a legal requirement under the EYFS? If so, would a homeopathic practitioner be acceptable to Ofsted? Presumably, it's within a parent's right not to have a doctor... Anthony
