Room Budjet Allowance
by Guest- 8 replies

HI Our nursery owners want to encourage all the rooms to feel involved in the decision making of certain nursery aspects. they feel that allocating each room a budget per month would be motivational. we have four rooms and each month they are planning to allocate £25 per room for toys/craft. this plan was presented to staff tonight at a staff meeting and most seemed happy but after i thought about this i wondered how fair it is to allocate rooms of different sizes (as in numbers) the same amount of money. i.e baibes have six children at the most, pre-school have 18 most days, it seems unfair to provide these rooms with the same amount of money. the nursery owner…

After a slightly deflating SEJAR (self evaluation joint annual review) today, we scored quite low due to us not meeting continuous provision / free flow within our baby and toddler areas. Goodness knows why i thought this only applied to preschool, considering the EYFS covers all ages! My question is how do you succesfully implement this into your settings (especially baby room). As i understand it, we need to provide each workshop/area within each age range, but am struggling to get my head round how i can provide areas such as investigations. I am really keen to hear from full day care nurseries who have been inspected under the EYFS, how did you get on …

Star Of The Month

HI all. two months ago we introduced a star of the month scheme for staff. i thought i had it all orgainsed. however third month in and no star has been awarded, due to the nursery owner feeling that no one has been put forward as achiveing anything 'exceptional' to warrent receiving star of the month. what we have been doing is having a staff file where each member of staff assumes responsability for it and other staff can make positive comments on slips which can be added to the staff file. some staff make the effort some can't be bothered. I am thinking of abandoning the staff files and maybe just having a display board in the staff room where staff can add…

Dear All, I am not sure if this is the right Forum for this. Money has been missing (fees) in the nursery, it first happened last month when the fees where left in the office desk drawer for me to collect £45, called a meeting obviously no one came forward, told them it will come off their salaries. It happened again today, this time the money was in the safe (small hand held ones) and locked, £50 missing, i had the keys, and it seems that someone picked the lock, because the person left the eqiupment she used wedged in between the safe, possibly panicked and forgot to take it out. This is really disappointing, and am very angry cause i really threat them o.k …

Nvq Level 3, Help?
by Guest- 2 replies

Hi all I have just started my NVQ Level 3, part-time over the course of a year and have been asked to do a focused activity plan to be used in my portfolio. We then have to get the children to complete the activity and then evaluate it. I have done the plan, the children have completed the activity, I have observed them and evaluated it. I used the water tray, put some food colouring in the water and put one jug in and the rest of the vessels had holes in at various points, allowing the water to drain out. I also put some colanders in which did not hold any water at all. I can link all of this to the theorists (Piaget's schema, Bandura imitating others) an…

Does anyone know where I found it or where I can find another version. I have searched my hard drive and had no luck, I have used the forum search option and had no luck there either. Can anyone help me please?

Home Based Study?
by Guest- 28 replies

Hi all Not sure if I have put this in the right place? Anyway looking at doing NVQ 3 in childcare etc but may have missed the deadline and not sure that they start half way through the year! Have not got any childcare qualifications (degree in Biology) but my supervisor says I should be ok to go straight to NVQ3. If I cant get on course until next Sept anyone done/know of equivalent home based study I could do myself? Seen lots of courses but confused about what I could do! Unable to do part time/eve course at college due to childcare issues myself plus also work 3 nights per week at Sainsburys! Hence the thought of being able to do in my own time at home whi…

Longevity Of Programmable Toys
by Guest- 5 replies

We have 3 programable toys, bought just over a year ago. [i won't be more specific but they are well known & often reommended for preschool children] They haven't had particularly harsh treatment, and haven't even beeen used excessively, yet one went faulty within the year & was replaced; the same happened to a second just after the year was up, & a third looks a bit dodgy. I am beginning to wonder whether it is worth replacing them. The budget isn't that flush at the minute. Is it just us, or has anyone else had a similar experience?
