Does anyone have any experience of this in early years? One of my staff suspects that a three-year-old boy is showing traits. I don't have any direct experience of it, and had only heard of it linked to ASD. The traits observed have been: Resists and avoids the ordinary demands of life Appearing sociable but lacking depth in understanding Excessing mood swings and impulsiveness Comfortable in role and pretend play, sometimes to an extreme degree Language delay, often with a good degree of catch up I'd be interested to hear if anyone has come across it in a child, and how you worked with that child and parents. Thanks!

Does any one work or have experience of working on an zero hour contract??? Within our setting all our staff are on a zero hour contract except for possibly the manager and deputy although I'm not 100% sure. The thing is when i first started I was just to do a few hours here and there and mainly cover. But as the pre school got busier I was asked to do a few more until the end of term, then a few more and before I knew it I was working full time even though I never really wanted to do it permanently. We don't get sick pay and every September our working days are uncertain. I've tried asking to reduce my hours but they never do as I find working full time too much but I fe…

Encouraging a 3 year old to eat!

We have a little boy who joined our setting in January this year, he will only eat yogurt and porridge at home, and only the variety of yogurt that mum buys for him. We have tried spoon feeding, peer encouragement, role modelling, activities with food. He flatly refuses to eat anything, he will sit at the table during lunch, and he is upset, although not distressed, more a complaint noise. He has an older brother who has several food allergies, therefore meals at home are governed by the diet of his sibling. Mum admits that she finds the whole meal thing very difficult, we have made suggestions to her about how model a positive approach to him. She has taken advice f…

Hi Can anyone point me in the right direction of where to find a core book list for 2-5 year olds please. I'm sure a ready made list must excist somewhere. We will be a bilingual setting so dual language books will be a definate but I have some help with that side of things. (They wont only be one language) I did a search but didn't find what I was looking for! Any ideas or links greatly appreicated.

I do not expect any replies because I know that everyone is up against the same stupid bureaucratic and senseless rules from ofsted as I am. But I just need to vent. Just before Christmas I filled out EY2 forms for all my committee. Now due to the fact that I cannot be the nominated person any more, Ofsted are requiring the same EY2 form filled out for a committee member to become the nominated person. Not only that but I have just completed the email form from Ofsted with all the same details on it. Why on earth are they making us repeat all the same information again and again? I wish someone at Ofsted towers would come on here and explain their reasons for all this…

Dear all I have purchased Ipads for children to use in the nurseries but at the moment do not have Wi-Fi. Do any of you know apps that will work without Wi-Fi that are of course suitable for nursery children and support the EYFS.

I am currently studying towards my Early Years foundation degree. We have to look at an specific area of our preschool and compile a work based project around it. I am looking at our dressing up area but before I definitely go ahead with this topic I thought I would look to see if their is enough research available. We currently have a rail with hangers on and a variety of princess dresses etc. We also have normal clothes and a selection of material. We have found that within a very short period of time all the resources are thrown all over the floor. This could be because we have so much stuff and the item they are after is difficult to find. Once it is all over the …

We have a 2 yr old who has absolutely no sense of fear to the point he needs 1-1 for his own safety. He is a lovely little chap who has the usual 2 yr old tantrums but we are at a lost on how to keep him safe. His parents are struggling as well - Dad narrowly missed running him over the other day when he had let himself out of the house - fortunately Dad's car has a reverse camera so he saw him stood on the drive!!# We have already moved the garden around after he climbed onto the roof of the playhouse - we had already moved some items thinking that would keep him safe but no he found another way up. He eats playdoh despite repeatedly being told not to, climbs anything…
