Biscuits At Snacktime ?
by Guest- 28 replies

Hi all, Just wondering what other settings offer at snacktime. I have just started as leader of a sessional pre-school and they offer a piece of fruit followed by a plain biscuit everyday. I would prefer not to offer a biscuit everyday, maybe just once a week, but when I mentioned this to the other member of staff she was shocked and said they have to have a little treat each day. I am also concerned that changing this would upset the children as 1/2 of those attending were there last term and will expect a biscuit. I would welcome other people opinions on this matter. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I am sure that I have heard that a level 3 staff member needs to stay in the room at all times. Is this true? The situation is that a couple of days per week we will only have 1 level 3 staff member that is in. This has not happened previously has we had at least 2 level 3 in each day. For example I am the only one in on Monday, we are based in a big room with the kitchen off to one side and tolilets through an open door, however when in there I cannot see what is going on properly in the main room. On top of this there will only be 3 staff members CRB'ed (including me) until the other 2's ones come back. Now I am right in thinking that I cannot leave th…

Hi there. Not sure I've posted this in the right place but here goes! Tomorrow I have a potential parent and child visiting our setting (1st day back for us). They have just moved to our area and are Brazilian. The mum speaks good english but the little girl who is nearly 2 1/2 (or should I say 29 months!!!!) only speaks portuguese. I would love to make them feel especially welcome tomorrow by being able to use some of their language. Anyone got any useful tips for me or a website that may help? Thank you!

After a delay , partly my fault in not picking up e mails!!! The CWDC have asked to make contact with FSF to seek our views and have a voice to government. My experience of them over the past 2 years is hugely positive and I ask while this is set up please be patient and we may at last be heard the FSF has a superb range of members who hopefully can help shape the future. I am awaiting a response now from Helen or Steve- but it is 11.41pm!!!!! See you soon.

Hi everyone- wondering if someone can help. We are a 52 place part-time school nursery (although we are not quite full in the morning and about half full in the afternoon). Most parents naturally want a full-time place for a variety of reasons. We follow the LA criteria for allocation of full-time places in a part-time setting. Once that criteria is filled then we look to who we feel would beneift/needs it the most. What I want to know is does anyone working in a school nursery charge for full-time places? I would love to hear from anyone who works like this and how it is done. Hoping someone can enlighten me cheers apple

I need some advice from all you people out there. I have a member of staff who has just said she is now reluctant to give apple to the two year olds in our group because of the choking hazard. I have searched the forum and have read lots of advice but nothing about apples. It has always been our policy to chop grapes and slice apple thinly. I am sure that like me, choking is one thing you worry about alot, but I have always thought that as long as the children are correctly supervised and the food is correctly chopped we will be ok. I want to support my staff member in her worries, but I do not want it to get out of hand. I also want the children to have the choic…

Please help - I have just discovered this forum - it's great - will be on here for hours if I'm not careful! I have already found answers to so many questions and don't feel so panicked about eyfs now. I do have one question though about the new ofsted registers. Is everyone on all three? I'm a bit confused becuase it just seems that as an ordinary nursery caring for children up to the rising 5s I only need to be on the Early Years Register and not the compulsory and voluntary parts of the childcare register. I have asked Ofsted and they weren't really that helpful. I haven't replied to the form sent out about which register I need to be on yet because of this and ne…
