Well tomorrow many of us will re-open our doors for the fist time since March....we have all worked hard to establish a way we can work, risk assessed, spoken with parent's, had difficult conversations with staff and made our decisions....no rights, no wrongs just doing our best.....so to everyone who like me is simultaneously chomping at the bit to get back in the saddle and terrified that I or someone I love might fall off, Best of luck! I have no doubt that some of my plans will unravel as we go back but like all good early years practitioners I am armed with scissors, pritt stick, sticking plasters, soap and a good sense of humour......so I can fix anything …

I'm just about to do some laminated signage for when we go back "outdoors" post C19 ....and I have a real issue with "Catch it, Kill it Bin it!" because its saying something that doesn't happen..simply sneezing into a tissue (wiping or indeed coughing into etc etc) doesn't kill anything it merely (hopefully) contains it from passing on to someone else...the virus/bacteria whatever is there lives on in the tissue. One of the big issues we have probably all noticed during this whole saga is how ignorant people are about what a virus is, how it works and how we best protect ourselves from it...and lovely and catchy as the "preferred choice" of words is for us to ins…

I need some advice please from you people of wisdom! We currently have a little girl who will be three in May. She started with us in November. She is a bright, happy and sparky little character. Mum had tried potty training before she came to us, without any success so at our first meeting I told her not to worry and to just stop and we would see what happens once she was settled with us and had opportunity to see the other children toileting etc. This did work and she showed an interest in using the toilet and was soon in pants and doing well. However she has developed a real fear now of doing a poo and gets so distressed when she needs one. This has also now increased…

We are very limited for space in our bathroom and we have to change children on a changing mat on the floor, kind of in the doorway of the toilet and in front of the sinks. Not ideal I know, but it’s all we have. Currently if a child has a wet nappy or is sitting on the potty We do not shut the playroom door and other children can access the bathroom to use the other toilet and wash hands. If a child has a dirty nappy or pants, we shut the playroom door whilst the key person is changing them. At our staff meeting today a member of staff said they didn’t think we should be doing this anymore In light of the Vanessa George case. My thinking is that we are protecting the…

Help, I a, having a mental block. I have a two year old on two year funding who turns three on the 7th April. Would he receive his 30 hours then or have to wait until the Autumn term?

I have just received back the parent surveys that I sent out. As predicted they are all crying out for us to open five days a week. We used to open five mornings, then we were put under pressure from parents to open for two days and a morning (to make the 15 hours) which is what we have been doing for the last few years. I made the decision that with the numbers we have on roll (14) that to provide the 30 hours funding would not feasible. (I also don’t think we have many families that would qualify) Last year it was touch and go on the 15 hours that we could remain open. How do I explain to the parents that we just cannot afford to run at a loss which is what we would…

Our Ofsted registration states that we can only have four two year olds at one time. I have never queried this before, but why is this? Is it a space thing and is it something that can be changed? Sorry for all the questions but I am getting bombarded with demands from parents and just want to ensure my facts are correct.

We have been asked if we offer a twin discount. There is nothing in our policy and having checked some of the other local preschools they don't seem to offer it either. Do you offer it and if so, how much? If you don't what are your reasons behind it. Also, do you only offer it to twins or to siblings and what is the criteria, i.e stops when the older sibling gets funded?
