I have just realised that my toddler room staff have done an activity with their two-year olds involving writing their names by tracing over yellow writing. I don't think this is an appropriate activity at all, let alone for two year olds so I need to talk to them about age appropriate activities. I'm just a bit stuck on how to explain that tracing over their names is not what we need to be concentrating on. To me, tracing over yellow writing is a really old fashioned idea. Any thoughts on how to approach this?

Good evening, We have a set of TTS Easi-Ears, unfortunately we have misplaced the charger and TTS do not offer any spares. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if they have found anywhere that sells a replacement charger? we have tried a 'universal' charger but none of the connectors seem to work!

I have a summer born child (August birthday) who really could do with another year at pre-school, the difference in his development compared with the other children also going up is quite noticeable. The child's Mum came to speak to me on Friday to say that they are thinking about deferring his school place for the year. I have a few questions and would appreciate your knowledge and advice. 1. If he does not go up, can pre-school still claim funding for him? 2. I am guessing that we can take him under our Ofsted certificate until he is five? 3. Will he have to go into year one when he starts or will he be able to do his reception year? (The school he is going to i…

Does anybody not supply a snack during the three hour morning session? I am toying with the idea to stop snack all together. Lets face it, as long as the children have access to and are encouraged to have a drink throughout the morning is it really that important to have a snack? I am just thinking out loud and would love some comments from you lovely people. I just think that a member of staffs time could be better spent with the children rather than faffing around with snack and all that it entails. We currently provide cafe snack but it does take away a member of staff for quite a long time (and in some cases when they think they can get away with it, two of them, …

I have a question with regards to work experience from a different country. I am thinking of organising a work experience 'swap' where I send my practitioner(s) to Finland/Italy/Russia's early years settings while their practitioners come to us. However, the biggest issue here is DBS as I wouldn't be able to have it done. What your advice would be?

Hi Folks today we discovered we have a maths wizard amongst our children. He's just turned 3, it's his second day in nursery and he loves numbers. SO much so that when playing on the lightbox with the gel numbers he was putting combinations of three numbers together and telling us what they were e.f. 207, 896, 104 etc! Speaking to mum tonight we asked what she had observed of him at home- he loves countdown, has been known to count to a 1,000, is beginning to write numbers, especially large numbers and also likes to watch alpha blocks - he knows letter names both lower and upper case - not yet the sound. Phew! Have spoken to the head and we will gather more evidence on…

we have recently had a little Polish child start at my setting, they are dropped off and collected by nan -who speaks no English at all, we have been sort of communicating by gestures etc...but thankfully, the child has settled really well -so we dont have any specific issues we need to mention...yet ! But as nan is generally our only point of contact ..and the child speaks no Polish or English, we were thinking about sending an info sheet home with nan everyday...so that mum could see what their child has enjoyed, eaten, any acheivements or concerns etc ( mum speaks English) has anyone done something similar - - i was concidering just a written daily report, but fee…
