6 Month Appraisal
by Guest- 13 replies

Hi I had my 6 month appraisal yesterday, just what I needed at the end of the week when we had been visited by Ofsted! Anyway, it went well- supervisor had loads of positive things to say and I have now been given my own group of 6 key children and I have been designated child protection officer. I am so pleased and excited. Gosh that makes me sound a bit sad doesn't it? Actually beginning to feel like a professional now! Took the kids out today to celebrate - wine is chilling as we speak to go with the takeaway my partner is buying tonight (although he doesn't know it yet) Sally

Photo Of Children With Their Name
by Guest- 6 replies

in previous setting i have always been discouraged from putting childrens names with their photograph for example on their coat peg or on displays, and have generally agreed with this, mainly for child protection reasons- ie someone coming into the setting we dont know cant identify childrens names if their name is not with their photo anywhere. however in my new setting on coat pegs there is photos with names and im wondering whether i should mention it or is it the settings individual choice? thanks

OK so this might seem an odd question... How many of you have two mops: one for everyday spills and one for use when mopping up after toileting accidents? We're a little divided in the team. Some of us feel we sould have two mops for the two different uses and others feel that so long as the appropriate cleaner is used and the mophead is thoroughly rinsed between uses, its fine to have one mop. Has anyone been on any recent health and safety training and could perhaps give me some advice before my head explodes? Thanks! Maz

HI After doing day one of a first aid course, today (i might add a damm saturday, and we are not being paid for it!!!!) i have come away wondering what to do re the plaster situtaion. The guy doing the training said that it is important to cover all cuts witha sterile dressing and if its a small cut a plaster will suffice. BUT we don't out plasters on, the other managers said it was because it is an ofsted thing. The guy who did the course said that we should put plasters on. who is right? and what do you do in your nursery? Dawn

I am just coming to the end of my NVQ3 CCLD and am wondering what next! I moved straight onto my level 3 after my level 2 so have been studying for 2 years, but I know that if I have a 'break' I may not go back!! I have just taken over as Superviser of a sessional Pre-School so my level 3 is fine in that respect but I am wondering if the level 4 is worth doing. Any advice greatly received as I'm not sure which way to go next!! Thanks Kris

We have received two written complaints from parents about another parent who breast feeds her child when bringing her older child, and collecting her. The "baby" is actually a toddler, and the mother feeds him whilst standing queuing up to sign in, and then sits either by the entrance door, or on the steps outside. She is not discrete, and does not attempt to cover herself up. Before we received the compaints we had offered her a more comfortable area to feed the baby, but she declined. Both letters refer to the fact that it is a natural, acceptable practice, but take exception to the openness, inviting comments from their children, and to the necessity, as the …
