Hi! I work in a large nursery and we have 38 children mornings only. 7 are early starters and the rest go to school in September. We are finding it impossible to fit in phonics every day. We have 18 on WellComm interventions as they came up as red, which is six different activities to be done twice a week. Also our own next steps for prime areas, and IEP target work. Also adult activities! We do two phonics teaching sessions a week, and two maths ones and the fifth day children go into school for music lesson, so it's not fair to have a teaching session on top of this. We incorporate phonics into provision as much as possible, and also sing rhymes daily, incorporat…

.....I for one will not use a certain website for resources. As this subject has been in a few recent posts I thought I would add this link (that has just appeared on another popular social media site) http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/8462650.stm PS- To the Admin people. I fully understand that maybe I shouldn't have posted the link - so if it has to be removed then fair enough.

I would very much love to hear from anyone that feels that they are doing their best and their best is good enough, As I am a very positive person and love the job I do, however no matter how hard I work it still doesn't seem enough. I am starting to wonder is it always going to be like this! Really feel like walking today.

I have a spare copy of The Nursery Year in Action by Anna Ephgrave. I bought two copies last summer so the whole team could read it, but we only really need one now. It's £22.99 on Amazon. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nursery-Year-Action-Following-childrens/dp/0415820049/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1455546469&sr=1-1&keywords=the+nursery+year+in+action Selling for £12.00 including P&P. It's in excellent condition. Send me a message if you'd like it. It's a great book - we've got a lot from it.

Hi, I have been reading the document 'Supporting children with Behavioural, Emotional and Social Difficulties' and it has made me evaluate (further) how I've dealt with a particular child recently. I have a child in my class who sometimes refuses to come to the carpet until you count down (something I don't particularly like doing) and then will come just as you finish saying 1 (while looking intently at me! So on one particular occasion, when she did this, I decided to take her to the other side of the room after she had shown this behaviour. She started to have a tantrum on the way, throwing herself to the floor, so I tried to pick her up but she struggled so I asked …

What would you expect to see for each of these for 22-36 band and 30-50 band? There's only one statement for 22-36, and two for 30-50. When looking at another settings moderation notes they had specific things for 30-50, e.g. had to be using letters in writing to be working within and using initial sounds to be secure. Is this what everyone else does? We have been judging beginning if they were beginning to ascribe meaning to marks they made/saw, and secure if they were always ascribing marks they made/saw in a variety of contexts, and spontaneously. Now I'm wondering.....

Has anyone used the Well Comm system for assessing and developing children's language skills? I am interested in using it and might use our EYPP to pay for some of it. I'd particularly be interested in hearing if anyone has used it across all age ranges as it's meant to be suitable from 6 months upwards. Thanks in advance!
