Does anyone know of a good medical dictionary website? I am trying to find some information about a child's medical condition, hopefully written in lay person's terms but am struggling a bit. I have information from mum, but wanted to have something in writing so we know what we're dealing with, if you know what I mean. Thanks in advance! Maz

Calling An Ambulance

Hi Today we had a very poorly child in our setting! The child aged 3 became floppy and was very hot etc. We stripped some layers off him and put a cold compress on his head and he seemed to perk up. Luckily it was time for parents to collect their children when it happened, mum came in and we advised her to take him straight to the doctors, As she was preparing to leave, he vomiteed and became floppy again. He looked so pale and poorly that we decided tgo call an ambulance. (They were brillant, they came within 3 minutes!!) Anyway to cut a long story short, the child went to hospital but he was back home within an hour and half as the hospital could find nothing …

I have a 4year old at pre-school that opens his mouth very wide and clenches his fists. He did this on an occasional basis but i'v noticed that he does this throughout the session. We just ignored the behavior at first.I have tried to encourage him to speak about his thoughts but he just gets embarrassed. I have mentioned this to his Dad and he says that he is copying him because he makes funny faces when he plays with him???????.The child is making involuntary movements he seems to have no control over. The child has no speech problems. Any ideas please.

Parents As Partners In Preschool

Hi. I have just started in a preschool where they need to make lots of changes before Ofsted's return in a few weeks! One of the ideas I like is to having closer links with parents. I want to welcome them to come in for sessions, or part of the session to help out and feel more involved. What are the rules about CRB checks for the parents and do any of you have parents come in to help? Any suggestions would be most welcome!

Paint

We are having troubles with the paint we buy. Despite adding lots of washing up liquid to it, and providing the children with aprons, it is still staining children's clothes. We ask parents to dress their children accordingly, but have still had a couple of complaints, and been presented with a receipt for a child's Gap top for £17 I am looking to change our paint, and would welcome any receommendations for where you buy your paint from. Also, do you use powder/ squirty bottles/ blocks ?

Hi guys, sorry not posted for ages AGAIN. Should be grateful that I'm so busy! I'm writing an info booklet on malleable play and wondered if anybody had any photos of sand mousse. Usually Google images comes up trumps but not this time I've never done the activity myself and plan to have a go as soon as I can get hold of some sand!! I'm quite excited as this is for an interactive workshop for parent/carers and the children and I'm making separate handouts for each activity as well as the info book. Could be brilliant but equally could be an unmitigated disaster!! We'll see. Once it's done, I'll be happy to share the info - no point re-inventing the wheel is there?

Hi, I know that I have brought this subject up before but it is a bug bear (sp) of mine!! I work in a sessional pre-school and pre Sept we were not paid for any traning, however the committee did agree that one session (not day) would be paid per staff member per year IF the traning course fell on a day that the staff member worked. Obviously funds are a big factor in this but we received a cheque for £700 this week from the local LEA. This was basically for the setting to use to pay for cover for me, (as I had been doing a Level 4, which I have now completed and passed) or expenses etc. I did pay £200 towards the course myself as the bursary didnt cover it and …
