Hi, My setting have received an application form from our LEA to apply to be a LFSP. It basically says that anyone currently working with the under 5's can apply and you need to have at least 2 years experience as well as demonstate how you work to best practice etc! Apparently those that are chosen will be expected to visit other settings, have visitors come to their setting and to be involved in consultations/training etc for which the LEA will fund 10 days per year for those people? Just wondering if anyone else had hear of this schme?

Drinking Water...

I apologise if this has been discussed before - infact I think I may have even asked this question before - so sorry All of my over 1 rooms have free access to drinking water throughout the day. The ones select their beaker from a table, and the 2-5s pour out their own drinks. What do you do for the children aged 3 months to 1? They are offered drinking water throughout the day - but I don't think it is often enough, and I don't think that staff think about it unless a baby is crying or having a snack or a meal. Any creative or simple ideas?

Becoming A 'charity'

Some advice and information needed please.....the setting is a self-funding nursery run by a committee made up of governors from the school(local primary) we get no financial help from them at all....wages, rent, resources etc etc are paid for out of the money taken in fees. I have been asked by the committee to think about changing to a 'charity' but unsure about how to go about this or even what it would mean for the nursery. Is anyone already a charity run setting? How do you go about getting this status? mrsb

As a self-confessed (but recovering) control freak, I am experimenting lately with leaving the (very experienced and capable) staff team to get on with things when I need to get home and work on an assignment/do invoicing etc. Someone usually texts or emails to let me know if anything notable happens during the rest of the session, because they understand my need to know... Yesterday our deputy supervisor emailed about something else and then almost as a 'ps' says that when one of the staff opened a little boy's bag to help him put his indoor shoes away at home time, she found his mum's cigarettes and lighter inside his backpack - where they had been sitting in the c…

Does anyone know of a pre-school that has moved on to a school premises that already has an existing nursery? If so how does it work? Does the pre-school only have under three's or do they provide wraparound care for the nursery children?

Hi, I am a Foundation Stage leader and our playgroup has been told they need to show that they use the birth to 3 matters document and let parents know what is in the planning. Does anyone have any good ideas on how they can do this? The building has a small cloakroom when you walk in that I thought the planning could be displayed on for parents to see. What else could go up there to show the parents what is going on and what the children are doing? Also do you have set times for parents to speak with key workers? Or a parents evening? Any ideas in these areas would be much appreciated!

2 Year Olds

As part of our re-launch and expansion programme, from Easter we will be taking children from 2 years old on. I have been thinking how do other preschools/ playgroups manage this? Do they attend for the whole session? Do you have certain times/days fro them? How to you work it? I ask these questions as i have just had my 2 year old nephew ( and his big brother) staying for the holidays and suddenly realised how many things will have to change in our routines as a result of having younger children in. At the moment we have pre school and reception in together, so we have a couple of big 5 year olds. I am begining to wonder if it is such a good idea. Any advise?
