Our parents have signed formed in agreement to us calling an ambulance and accompanying their child to hospital if necessary. We have been told that they also need to sign an agreement that will authorise us to agree to any medical treatment when their child reaches hospital. I have to say that we do feel uncomfortable about this, because if anything goes wrong we would feel terrible and the parents would probably blame us. Doing a quick poll of parents most have said they wouldn't sign it. Has anyone got an example of a consent form that they use that I could look at or any ideas of wording? Is it correct that if the parents did not give permission when we arrived at ho…

To make our outside area more weather proof, we need a new canopy. Currently we have a metal stucture with a plastic corrugated roof. It lets the rain in through the sides, so making activities such as painting, constuction etc difficult and ruins alot of the equipment. After a frost we get a high level of condensation that drips for half of the day!! We have fundraised alot to improve our outside provision, so with the money left plus a very generous donation we are looking to deal with this canopy. Can anyone recommend a canopy/company? Is a wooden structure better or is it higher maintenence? Are pull down sides worth having? I have done a bit of research on th…

We have a new deputy starting at our pre-school in 3 weeks time. She came in for a visit today and had a look at our planning etc. She is lovely and is coming from a day nursery and she obviously has high standards which is great. She has said that OFSTED will not be happy with how we run our weekly rota of toys. Currently we have the same toys out all week, so this week we have had Peak Road and Rail, car mats, garages etc, easels with chalks in our messy area, home corner in our role play area, and a colour matching game on our table. Obviously the normal book corner and mark making are out all the time. Craft this week is free painting. Our afternoon activities ar…

HI, can any one tell me what are the requirements for a nursery cooks uniform, can they just wear a normal nursery uniform (as in polo shirt and black trousers) with a cooks apron, or do they have to have the chef type trousers and jackets. also if they have short hair do they have to wear a hat? I know they need indoor shoes and as far as i understand they are to change into the uniform when they arrive to nursery, is this correct? Dawn

Hi We are looking to buy a new kitchen for our home corner. What kitchen do you have and how has it lasted? I like the look of the mobile corner unit that is the catologues, but am also looking at the units that have fully hinged doors in the hope they stay attached? What do you recommend. Thanks

Emergency Contct Details
by Guest- 6 replies

Hi I am using the time in between xmas and new year (whilst we have fewer children in nursery) to update all the emergency contact details for staff and children. We are becoming computerised at last and all records are to be stored on computer but obviously we need a hard copy of emergency details as well, and at present they have been kept in a folder in the office and then taken out by the manager in event of an emergency. i am wondering what information we have to have in the emrgency file.... do we need children's addresses, or just their name, date of birth and emergency phone numbers. does each room have their own emergency details for the children and staff i…

Hi, I am wondering whether anybody can help me. Would anybody have or be willing to take for me some photos of displays/areas etc where you have displayed positive imagery. I am working with settings which need to address this, only i am finding just explaining the importance of positive imagery really isn't having the impact i would like. I thought examples of how others have been creative and been able to include positive imagery within different areas of their settings may inspire some of the practitioners. Any photos of what you have done would be gratefully received. In fact thinking about it any photos which demonstrate Inclusive practice would be re…
