Does any one know the best nursery management software that can be used for managing staff and children's details as well as children's profile. Currently looking at iConnect but seems expensive. Any suggestions please!

Hi, So we're at that stage in the year where the children are now playing collaboratively but are struggling with sharing and respecting other children's play space. We had a little chat today and discovered that some of the children don't actually understand what 'being kind' means! Although this is something that we have chatted about before and used puppets etc to demonstrate we feel we need some decent, clear pictures to make it visual for the children. I've thought about taking photos of the children but just wondering if anyone has or knows of any resources that we could use to show the children different ways of being kind? Or a song maybe? Thanks Green Hippo x

After paying £35 last year I have received notification of the direct debit for this year's payment for £50. Nothing has changed - we are still open for less than 45 weeks a year. I phoned Ofsted to query the amount to be told that we should only pay £35!!!? So how does that work???? Rogue computer in Ofsted Finance Dept? So my warning to everyone is check your statements.

The Government must deliver the promise to give EVERY child the chance to learn musichttps://www.change.org/p/the-government-must-deliver-the-promise-to-give-every-child-the-chance-to-learn-music "Across England, thousands of children are being denied a proper music education. In one school I visited, the annual music budget was just £2.20 per pupil per year. Some teachers have nothing at all. It’s a scandal. Learning an instrument changed my life. It actually saved my life. And now I’m lucky enough to perform around the world as a concert pianist. But music doesn’t just bring us joy. The UK music industry contributes £3.5billion to our economy. Learning an ins…

How are you spending yours? And if it's giving extra interventions, is an extra person coming in or are you taking time in session and not providing extra? We have four eligible, but no extra support is put in, we just have to squeeze time into sessions, meaning taking time away from the rest of the children. When I asked weren't we supposed to spend it on something additional to what rest of class get, I was told just to fit interventions in. It's £32 a week. No extra resources have been bought and I have had no say on what it's spent on. It is just being taken into the school pot.... Is this happening everywhere?

We are an open plan setting and are struggling with the influx of 2 year olds coming in at the moment. We are trying to cope with the nappies, toileting and extra supervision/ comforting some may require on top of providing a learning and challenging environment to help meet the needs of our 3 and 4 years old and snack and outdoor play plus senco. Our group times are a mess as we are struggling to find a balance between adult led and free play. We normally do registration that lasts 5/10mins followed by splitting into age groups for a group activity. Some staff have complained this is too long. We then group together before lunch and after to do a group activity then agai…

Non breaking pencils and felt pens
by Guest- 5 replies

Can you please tell me what brand of pencils and felt pens do you use in your setting? Are there any pencil brands that have leads which don't break so easily? I bought once a lot of pencils called BIC Evolution HB. They are slightly flexible but not as flexible as those new that you can tie in a knot. Unfortunately I cannot find them online and not in local shops. Any other good brands to recommend? Good washable felt pens as well as white board markers can also be difficult to find, so your advice will be highly appreciated.

We are currently planning a refurb of our toddler room and I'm desperate to change our flooring. It's currently a green, sparkly industrial type flooring that you often see in schools etc. Whilst it is hard wearing it does hold the dirt and doesn't fit the warm feeling of the natural woods and creams we have in our rooms. I'd love wood 'effect' flooring I really do feel this would finish off our space perfectly. Has anyone else got this type of flooring, any tips on the best type or costs per m? I have a couple of local companies coming to do quotes in the next few weeks- just trying to get my head around it before then. Thanks in advance FF x

Water heaters for hand washing?
by Guest- 10 replies

Hi Just want some opinions please. I am based in a village hall and the children (3yrs+) access the toilets independently. Hand washing basins and soap available but there is no running hot water. In the winter the childrens hands get really cold using the water from the taps. Thinking that its not good hygiene to have the basins filled with warm water there are two water heaters on the wall to use. Would you let the children use these (turn dials) without an adult present? Are they safe to use if the children have wet hands when touching them? I am mindful that they could turn the dial and get scalding water(actually not sure of this so will have to look at them mysel…
