Living Barriers Which Move!
by Guest- 3 replies

I'm looking for a living (as in plant) barrier or structure which could be used as a barrier but have plants attached/planted?! Basically I'd like to make a distinction from one area to another with this structure or whatever anyone can come up with. This will help us to stop the children having access to too large a space as we will have a large outdoors when we move. I'm hoping to get something natural looking, which acts as a visual reminder rather than a phyiscally immoveable structure as we'd like to change the area cordoned off on a regular basis. (Oooh golly, I hope that makes sense). Has anyone got any ideas?

Committee Involvement

Please help I am new to committee ran management - How involved are your committee's with individual children's records? My committee are unsure about what information we should be discussing outside the running of the setting in that a child's name was mentioned at a meeting and there was a little uproar about confidentiality - what I wondered was what do other committee's do? The child mentioned has SEN and there are other children with issues, we are unsure how ethical it is ? There are things to talk about which involve individuals - I know we can mention no names but should we be discussing them at all?

We have a boy age 4, who is now too big to use the tikes cars and large trikes. The child is now proud of the fact that he is too large to use wheely toys. He has a constant battle keeping his trousers on his waist. He is now coming in wearing a belt that is so tight that we are frightened of pinching him to loosen the belt so he is comfortable. I have tried to tell his mum that he needs trousers that he can manage them himself. She got cross with the child and told him off. He is unable to run and climb easily. His weight is steadily increasing. Although he will be going to school next Easter I feel I must do something. Mum is a single parent and they live in a flat. He …

We are a maintained Nursery - part of a school. We usually open a week after the school in January to enable us to carry out home visits for the new intake. It has been suggested that we are unable to keep the Nursery closed for this extra week. Does anyone have more information on this?

Nursery Nurses

In my maintained Nursery I have two Nursery Nurses who are salaried. In school the teaching assistants are paid hourly. My new head teacher is finding it difficult to understand why the NNEBs have a different contract. I have explained that their contracts were negotiated with the LEA by the unions but she needs more information. Any ideas how I can justify/explain this further?

Has anyone had the same experience ? I had a letter from a parent whose first child attends Pre-school, on Friday saying "Would you please put LMs baby sister on the waiting list. She is expected to arrive on 17 March 2008 with the hope of starting Pre-school sometime in 2010. The name hasn't been decided yet but I will let you know as soon as we have made a decision" I was astounded but very pleased that she felt it necessary to put the name down so early !!!!! Sue J

Hi Mimi, You replied to one of my posts a while ago about a display inset you went on. You gave me a great idea about an activity I could do with the teachers, which was to give them a set of identicle pictures to make a display with. I was just wondering what sort of pictures you gave them and did you photocopy them. I want to do this next week with a group of teachers. Thanks for your help.

I have been asked to be art coordinator next year and do a policy for displays. I have not written a policy before and would appreciate any advise. I have also been asked to do an inset on displays. I want it to be a hands on approach, rather than me talking for an hour. Has anyone got any good ideas . I was thinking about giving groups a certain task to do such as making a stimulating book corner or writing area. What do you think?

Just a thought, what is the silliest(in your opinion!)thing a parent has fussed about. My colleague, let a child out to her Dad one day last week. He went bonkers and came back into the setting demanding to know what was all down his daughters dress. My colleague explained she had got yoghurt down it during lunch (the tube ones that seem to go in all directions!). Staff had indeed wiped it, but it just keep drying white on dark coloured clothing. He was really cross and went out muttering the "useless" word. Words failed me........To top it all she had been tugging on his jumper to tell him about her picture she was very proud of. He simply folding it small and stu…
