Does anyone out there work for a committee run setting? How does it work for you? Ours is driving me crazy. Chair has a power trip over every issue, he has no early years background and has no idea what we really do. He's now going to the wire over a half percent payrise. We already know our budget allows for the payrise, so he's come back and said if the committee do agree on the payrise we may have to lose a member of staff to compensate or shut one of the room, cancel sessions etc. I feel it's blackmail and union are fitghting our corner. It just really winds me up that some 'nobody' can come along and decide futures just because he hates to lose. Sorry for ran…

The Perfect Setting?!
by Guest- 13 replies

My committee have asked me to write a wish list of the perfect setting, like 1 large room, two rooms, partitions, glass panels etc; we are in the process of raising money for a purpose built pre-school - (been going on for years, so don't hold your breath) but what a lovely thing to do to have to think of the perfect provision. What would yours be like?? (I may steal some of your ideas if they are great - the setting would be for 30 children and a wooden structure has been talked about)....................................... (P.s) A large wooded area is close by to the proposed site...I am already on it with Forest school curriculum) I have even talked to the owners …

Registration Form 1 2

I know that there have been several discussions around this before, and I have had a look at the things that people have attached. However, I am in the process of reviewing the form that has been in existence for 2 1/2 years, which in my opinion is very lengthy. I know that we are only supposed to ask for information that we are going to use, and therefore I have the following questions: 1. Do we need to see a child's birth certificate and record the information from it? 2. Do we need to know their full history of immunisations, and see evidence that they have had them? I only ask because the current form asks for these, yet we do not use the information in any…

Staff Rota
by Guest- 10 replies

Do you all have a staff rota system for your nursery/preschool? The reason I'm asking is because I have a member of staff who is leaving on Friday and at the moment we have a rota going & she is on this. I am not replacing her because I have enough staff to cover a session anyway(always had over the ratios) & will still be within them...and then in January my joint supervisor will be returning after maternity leave. I am thinking of either changing it or not having such a structured one. We are free flow and child initiated led. What do you do & what would you think about no rota???? I feel confident enough knowing the staff are capable of using their…

Just got one of those rain measurers in the 99p shop, to add to a weather station in the garden. Any ideas of what else I could add - everything I have seen seems to be for primary age?

Yesterday i had an unexpected parcel arrive! We had all been on a maths training course supplied by our early years team and we got free materials called counting crazy. This is a crate full of great bits to encourge counting such ascounting pots, pompoms, bells, star flakes, counters, number cards and more! What a great tool this will be for our setting. Many thanks to our suppotive early years team! The crate came with "notes" which is full of games to play with the items, on the back is a web site WWW.BEAM.CO.UK this site is worth a look as it gives loads of ideas for maths games and in varying ages. Some of the games require the children to colour in as they go or a…
