Boosting Team Morale

My manager has asked me to take on a couple of roles over the next 3 weeks to prove that I am capable of the Senior Nursery Nurse position at work. Basically it has been left to me to arrange a 'team building' night out and to try and raise staff morale as it seems to have hit rock bottom at the moment. It appears to me that there are 2/3 people responsible for this current bad feeling but the trouble is, one of them isn't being recognised as contributing to it. I have tried in the nicest possible way to mention this to my superiors but they are not having any of it. To arrange this night/day out, I went round all the staff on Friday and asked them what their ideal ni…

hi can anyone, my local preschool is investigating taking on the running of our local out of school club. It appears that we may need to share premises therefore some members feel it would be better to be responsible for the management of both. Has anyone done this? I would be grateful for any help or advice

How many children do you have leaving your setting to start school? I have just been making a list ( another one!) so I'm all organised for their last day. Just counted them up and we have 26 leaving!!!!!! Luckily for us we have near enough replaced those with new children in September but I have heard that some nursery's around our area are cutting down on staff hours because they do not have enough children. Is there anyone else with this problem??

Pushy Parents

A parent in our setting is really starting to annoy us. Her son has been off for the last three Thursdays without any explanations, however we know (from other parents) that she has been going to the induction days at the local catholic school. We have no connection with this school. We still operate a two intake year. One in August and one in January. This child will only be 4 on the 13th August and she is now pushing the school to allow him to start on the 30th August. He is so not ready and we would really recommend that he doesn't start until January. She finally admitted this week that her son has been for induction days and that he will most likely l…

Boys Behaviour
by Guest- 10 replies

I have been reading through all the excellent advise on here re behaviour but still wonder if there is more help out there. The problem is around a group of 5-6 boys who attend day nursery all day. The set up of the nursery means that they can't be seperated but there behaviour is out of control! They have no respect for resources at all and seem to think anything they ruin (which they do freq and quickly) can be replaced. They are over physical in all their play (and yes, they do have lots of opportuntiies to play outside!) and activities have bene set up to specifically try to engage their interests and involve them- but still the disruptive behaviour continues. '…

Hi, Can anybody help me with a query that has come into our office today - not counting Quality Assurance schemes, are there any other awards that PVI or out of school settings can work towards? Perhaps something along the lines of anti-bullying, healthy eating, partnership with parents etc...? Any thoughts or ideas would be grateful!

ok so i've had a bit of a bumpy morning with parent meetings and me needing to high light some areas of concern to parents. Thought the morning was going to get better from that point onwards. So we all go out for our regular walk, today we have been looking to match up colours to our jigsaw bits from the setting as we stroll around our town. The children matched up the colours in the shop windows along the high street and we then started to progress towards the back paths back to the setting. We often get looks and smiles from passers by and postive comments as we walk along using our walking rope and the children in their hi vis vests. Today I/we were stopped by a l…
