I've been informed that by 2015 at least one member of staff working within a nursery setting must have a Foundation degree but does anyone know what degree it is that you need to have?

Broken Leg.

[font="Comic Sans MS"]A child was due to start with us but he fell off his trike and broke his leg. His leg is pinned and he is beening pushed around in his buggy. Mum says he can sit on the floor or on a chair but he must use his frame to walk. He must not clime, jump, run or twist his leg. I have encourged mum to bring him in with his frame and stay with him to see how he gets on. I am concerned about the floor being slippy ( wooden polished flooring), objects on the floor and the climing frame!!! I know i can request that he wears suitable foot wear, and that we all keep equpiment on the mats or on the table tops, for our walks out we will take him in the push chair.…

Ok here goes.... I have taken a supernumary Preschool leader role until September which is lovely as I can see what is being done well and what is not working and make notes to bring in GRADUAL change in September. At the moment as it is a village hall setting the room has to be set up every day, well the very first thing I have noticed is that staff are laying out a different set up every day - I have suggested that the layout should be the same in September - every day (but with obviously different activities but main areas of learning)- so as to offer a familiar environment for the children and offer the security that they need when settling in, however no-one has…

Pumpkin Seeds

We are planning to use pumpkin seeds next week as part of our healthy eating and lifestyles topic. I thought I would incorporate them into some bread we are going to make. We also like to tell the children where these things come from and will also use sunflower seeds which I know I can plant and the children can then watch grow....... My question is can you plant the pumpkin seeds that come in the packet from the supermarket and are really for eating. Sorry if this is a silly question but I've got loads of those kinds of seeds and need to know if I need to go to the garden centre for some to plant!!

please put my mind at ease.....we have been totally free flow for a while now.....yes it does work for some children but I am still having second thoughts. I can see where the free flow is coming from, and feel that to have a structured routine is just giving adults 'power' (if you see what I mean). I was wondering how you all run your settings....free flow or a structured routine??? Would you please share your thoughts and maybe a sample of your day and how you deploy your staff. I feel I'm losing grip on things and am desperately trying to find the fine balance mrsb

I am taking over the nursery at our school in sept. I am trying to decide my first topic and how to go about planning. Do i use the new framework? I am thinking or doing People who help us, does this sound ok for autumn term. Do I do a mind map of the different areas of learning? Any ideas would be great.
