Water heaters for hand washing?

Hi Just want some opinions please. I am based in a village hall and the children (3yrs+) access the toilets independently. Hand washing basins and soap available but there is no running hot water. In the winter the childrens hands get really cold using the water from the taps. Thinking that its not good hygiene to have the basins filled with warm water there are two water heaters on the wall to use. Would you let the children use these (turn dials) without an adult present? Are they safe to use if the children have wet hands when touching them? I am mindful that they could turn the dial and get scalding water(actually not sure of this so will have to look at them mysel…

Hi Can anyone recommend long sleeved waterproof aprons that actually work and keep the water out?! Outside water play and mud kitchen play is proveing challenging as the children are wearing thick outside coats so we cant push up their sleeves whilst playing in the water. Tried some aprons long sleeved that claimed to be waterproof but they are rubbish. Anyone else have this problem and have any aprons or solutions they can recommend?

Hi I would like to start using hand gel for parents and children when they enter the setting, like you do when you come into the doctors surgery. I was wondering if anyone already did this in their setting and if so could they recommend a supplier. I am looking to keep the cost as low as possible! Thanks

Hi Can anyone recommend a child proof machine. Got up to £100 to spend. Recent ones we have brought from TTS have not lasted long with children using! Thanks Joanne

Does anyone know how to make white playdough? If we don't put any colour in the dough, we just get a creamy-greyish pastry colour... Any tips? Thank you!

Does anybody use a Dictaphone to record an observation instead of pen and paper? If so where did you get them from and how do you find it works?

but - do you all have a display showing British Values. We had one that I was a bit 'meh' about and have taken it down but have just read on the oracle that is Facebook that you need one for British Values and one for Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural. Now I only have 4 display boards and one is taken up with planning and next steps so if I need to provide boards to cover these two topics I am left with one to display any of the children's actual work. I thought the whole thing around British Values was that if we were following the EYFS we were promoting it in our everyday actions and wouldn't need a board to say 'hey hey - look at us'. What do you think?

HI, I'm a Childminder and have just started using Tapestry. I was wondering what other Childminders send / print to there minded families at the end of each term? I have sent a copy of each child's Summative Assessments, is that enough? Should I also send them copies of their childs "next steps"...anything else? Any tips or advice would be very welcome. T.I.A :-)

We currently admit children at the age of two and a half years. I recently had a visit from our senior area senco (who also owns day nurseries) Whilst discussing the child she said it would be good for the family if the younger sibling could also attend us as soon as possible. She then questioned me quite closely why we don't take two year olds and put pressure on me to change this to accommodate this child. My personal opinion is that the development range would be too great to have all the age ranges on one room, God knows we find it a challenge already! I explained that it would be a committee desicion anyway. But we then had a meeting with the family and she told the…
