Nursery Registers,
by Guest- 6 replies

HI each room maintain their own nursery register, but we also have a whole nursery one which lives in the office. the last one we had was from the PLA i think, but i don't like the style of it, we always seem to go off the line, thus marking children in that aren't and visa versa. apparently, i need to maintain an office based register so can't get away with not having one, but i would like a new format. have done a google search but it brought up anything but nursery registers, any suggestions anyone, Dawn

Help! I am in the process of opening a small 6 place Baby Wing and am struggling to find appropriate furniture. Everything I look at is too high (aimed at 3-5's) The wing will cater for children aged 0-2, and I am looking for furniture for the older children to work at. I am struggling with all of the obvious catalogues. Can anyone offer any advice, suggest suppliers.

New Parent's Booklet

I am thinking about making a fresh new leaflet for our new enquirers (we are a pre school) I was just wondering what other settings put in theirs, it would be nice to get a fresh slant on things. I want to keep it simple, just the basics as we provide more detailed information to them when they start with us. Any chance of you guys filling me in on what you provide?

Hi everyone, I hoping someone will be able to give me some advice. We are having a fun day in july on a saturday and was just wondering about insurance. I'm assuming our normal insurance wouldn't cover it so do you think it's worth giving the PLA insurance a ring to see what they say. Also if anyone has any ideas for stalls etc. We are having face painting, refreshments, raffle, tombola, stalls for anything parents want to sell like jewellry, virgin vie etc. We are also selling the children's artwork in frames. thank you Laura

Qualifications

Can anyone clarify what qualifications staff should have and when they should be achieved. We are a pre-school. Two members of staff are teacher qualified (with a third coming on board in Sept) One member has NVQ level 3 early years childcare and education Two staff have NVQ level 2 early years childcare and education My understanding is that by 2008 all necessary staff should be workig towards NVQ level 3 and should definately be there by 2010. Is this right Is their still funding to get these folks to level 3.

Do any of you have guidelines that staff must follow when producing displays? In my new setting the displays are appaling - I have never seen anything like it. I know that in the scheme of things they can wait, but I cringe everytime I pass one!!

Hand Washing Germ Transfer
by Guest toddleo- 17 replies

How do you guys deal with the prevention of germs transferring when using a bowl for handwashing? We currently have a bowl of warm water with anti bac soap and the children use this after messy work and dry with paper towels. I know that OFSTED are hot on the issue of cross contamination when hand washing, so what do you guys all do? It is too far to traipse to the loo and running water with painty hands, and we have explored the option of wet wipes, too costly considering the state after hand painting! Short of changing the water after each child, or providing 30 bowls I can not think of a solution? Help !

Hello, Some time ago we purchased one of those lovely mirrored boxes. Can't think of the proper name but it has mirrors on all sides and on the bottom. Has anyone got any ideas of ways to make the most of it? Thanks
