Parents Help Needs A Certificate!
by Guest- 16 replies

Hi all, One of my staff members is currently training towards her DPP. Her tutor has told her that Ofsted's new thing to pick at is that parent helpers whom supervise snack situations will need a food hygiene certificate. Ok so the helper will supervise and over see the snack bar but follows the groups procedures regarding hand washing etc. Staff all have the food hygiene certificate, so what should we do or can we do to accomodate this. Training all parents will be costly, time comsuming, and off putting to the helpers. At the minute staff pre-pare the snack before the session but.... next term we will be having the children pre-pare the snack.... so what happens then?.…

It's that time of year again. I'm trying to decide whether to hire a coach or coaches to a local attraction. I feel on grounds of equal opportunity it should be offered to all children who attend. The problems are: 1) Because we are a preschool, they don't all attend in a consistent pattern 2) To meet ratios we tend to require parents/carers to come, too 3) Because the sessions are now all funded, presumably we can only ask for voluntary contributions from funded children? [The NEG would nowhere near meet the cost, and what happens if a child is funded for the morning but not the afternoon?] 4) And we'd be over ratio, so presumably we'd be in the same position as for …

I'm In A Difficult Situation
by Guest- 11 replies

Hi everyone! I find myself in a really difficult situation. I am joint manger at my pre-school and unfortunately, myself and my co-manger have had a serious disagreement It all came about because the staff came to me complaining about the amount of time she was taking off at short notice for appointments etc. this has been going on for some time and I felt that it needed to be sorted out because staff morale was low and there was a lot of resentment within the staff team. Unfortunately, the situation has 'snowballed'. I decided to have a chat with her about it (very diplomatically!) and unfortunately, it didn't go down well she spoke to one of the committee members (…

Childcare Vouchers
by Guest- 17 replies

Hello everyone, Just out of interest, have any of you been approached by parents who are given childcare vouchers from their employers to be used in registered settings? Well I have had my first enquiry from a prospective parent, and have had to contact relevant people for information as no information has been previously received. Apparently, the government is on a big drive in this tax year 2005/2006 to get employers to offer these as way of incentives for working parents as they can be tax/NI Free, and are paid in the employee's wages in batches of £50. There are numerous bodies (I know of at least 7) that are offering the schemes to companies. Has anyone el…

Adult:child Ratios

Help Please... Hi, I know I should know this but as I am leaving the group is looking at the numbers of qualified to unqualified staff. I know that the ratio is 1:8/1:4 and that 50% of the staff have to qualified to at least a level 2. Dilemma is that they will have 30 children with 3 children under the age of 3 for a short period of the summer term. On two days they will only have two Level 3 staff and two unqualifieds but with 30 children our own policy states that we have to have 5 staff. Do you think this extra member of staff has to be qualified. We have one person due to qualify mid summer term which would give us the 3 but canwe get away with 2 qualified a…
