Hi there! Amongst our oldest children we have two boys due to start school in September who are proving a challenge in our setting at the moment. They are bright and achieving to a high standard, but I am getting fretful about how I can keep them stimulated and learning, how to increase the challenges I present them with for the remainder of this term and the whole of the summer term! They are forming letters well, are beginning to blend, can sound out simple cvc words and are beginning to write spontaneously - amazing for boys eh. especially as we are 6 months into child initiated learning and I don't 'teach' them formally. Can you help? I can already see the signs …

Transformation Fund
by Guest- 4 replies

Got a letter today to say that my bid for the £5000 for the transformation fund had been accepted. My nursery had to be committed to having an EYPS by 2008, and I had to send in a bid form saying what I would use the money for. Was really pleased except that I'm leaving, and no-one else is on the EYPS. Feeling a little bit smug that they may not be able to have the funding after all - that'll teach em' to not treat people properly !!

Hi Have spent my Saturday morning so far playing with Easter Baskets and came up with the idea of modifying Susan's basket idea (below) from the Forum back in 2005, by adding Easter clip art. 4 baskets later, I have got one almost right. Print onto A4 paper. As Susan said, it's has great opportunities for shape discussion, and CLL. Thought someone might find it useful. Deb Easter_basket.doc

Mothers Day Lunch

Just wanted to share my lovely day with you all! As we only opened last June this was our first Mothers day so we knew we had to start a tradition. We invited all our mums to join us for the last half an hour of the session .The children made cakes and iced them,a fruit salad and we also laid on sandwiches. We had a very informal sing song with the children choosing their favourite songs, then mums and children helped themselves to the buffet. It was a lovely opportunity for mums to chat informally with staff and each other.Everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves. Sorry for rambling on just wanted to share my lovely morning with you all. Bookworm.

Hi all, I am trying to decide wether to stick to having children wash their hands in washing up bowls and drying with paper towels, or (as i read with someone who was just Ofsteaded) use antibacterial wipes instead. I feel that using wipes would be easier in our setting. Which would Ofsted prefer?

Hi all, just needing to pick your brains a bit!! we are having a change at playgroup and on Fridays we will be all going out for a walk, what ever the weather! Fridays will become our Fizsical Friday or Funky Friday not sure what to call it yet! We will be fousing on physical development, hence our walk out. I would like to theme our walk out such as collecting twigs which then will be used in the session WHEN WE RETURN to press into clay, paint, stick on etc so as we do not loose sight of why we went out. A second idea was to take photos of the shops, signs etc and give each child something to look for while on our walk. I need atleast four themes for walks each bringin…
