How do you deal with this in your settings . Should we except children knowing they have them and can we send them home if they are crawling? Just wondered what is good practice with you?!?

Fruit

I remember seeing various mentions of this in different posts, but cannot find any of them. Please can you tell me what policies you have for giving fruit as snacks to the under 2s? I have heard various things such as the size of the pieces and the skin being removed, and wanted to find out what people do? How about grapes - the under 2s love grapes, but I can't imagine trying to get the skin off!!

I want to do a display for pre-school regarding the five outcomes and was hoping to include photographs. I was wondering what images I could use for each of the outcomes-I am a bit stumped as to what to use for each one. Linda

Strange How Things Can Turn Out

Saw an old collegue today and got chatting about a chairman that we both new and was really shocked about some of the things that I heard. I know the nursery well that she chaired, also lots of the parents, some of the staff and committee members, so know her reputation well. I know we often moan about committees and how they run the nurseries but she was very different. Was very dedicated and passionate about the nursery, stood by the staff and really worked hard to bring the nursery to very high standards. She was praised by lots of officials for her dedication. Anyway I should really get to the point.....she fell out with a staff member (who in the end treated her…

Right, not 100% sure that this is in the right place but have done a forum search and cannot find anything specific (maybe its just me!) I am hoping to find some kind of information booklet that is given to parents with information about the Foundation Stage. It doesn't have to be too in depth but it does need to tell parents roughly what it is all about and what we do. Anyone have any ideas where I could find one, as I'm hoping to use on in my latest assignment? I have a feeling I'm going to have to make one up, and obviously I need to use proper information. Thanks everyone in advance!!!

Please can you tell me specifically how the roles of your nursery nurses and your nursery assistants differ? When I took over as manager at my nursery, the nursery assistants were doing exactly the same roles as the nursery assistants, but for less money!

I just wonder do you check the contents of children's bag on a daily basis? We have some children who leave a bag with spare clothes at preschool permanently. Others arrive with a bag each day - it is the same bag containing the same clothes just that children/parents prefer to take it home each day. One day last week the children were ready (with bags!) to go home. I was just about to open the door for parents when to my horror I saw a little girl delve in her bag and bring out a bottle of calpol it was in a knotted clear plastic bag with spoon. My heart missed a beat, the bag had hung in the cloakroom all session and I had no idea there was any medicine in it. I a…

Foods - 1 And A Half Year Old?
by Guest- 11 replies

What consistency of food should a 1 1/2 year old be eating? We have a child at nursery whose mum still sends him in with mushed up food for his lunch, which he just pops in his mouth and swallows. She's a mum who gets very defensive about anything. The nursery nurses in her room have mentioned to her about it before, but to no avail.
