HI I gained my degree in 2005, have been working in my current setting since march 2006, am very happy there, when they employed me they clearly knew i was a graduate but at the time of employing me there was very little info about EYPS. Now the director of the company (who happens to also own a company that deals with NVQ training(and this knows a lot re training and funding etc)) has been badgering me to do the EYPS. I personally don't mind doing it, but im caught up with thinking what is my director going to gain if i get EYPS... so does anyone know: what it would mean to the director of the company to have a manager with EYPS and What does it mea…

Saw this poem (and attached article) in Early Years Edcuator, and thought that it fitted nicely with the worksheet discussion on another part of the forum...The poem and article are both by Peter Dixon. The Raising of Standards It always amazes me to see hundreds of children painting ponds they’ve never seen, smelt, touched or fallen into. Why paint ‘in the style of’ anyone? Why not paint in the style of THEMSELVES? (As Monet did…) Today I copied my third Monet Water Garden and tomorrow I will complete The Bridge at Arles, a Miro, two Braques, and possibly the Sistine Chapel Ceiling. I will then copy A Midsummer Night’s Dream Beethoven’s Fifth and…

I wonder if anyone can help me? As you know the pre-school where I work has moved this weekend into a brand new building. The supervisor has worked for 4 years to get this project off the ground. I have organised a collection for the supervisor and i am about to go and get her a bouquet of flowers etc ready for tomorrow! The committe have also arranged a plaque, and a bench to go in the garden etc etc. As the deputy who works 5 supervisory sessions a week I feel that all the other staff should also have a 'thank you' so i have bought them all a 'spaceform' glass token with thank you and 3 kisses on (very cute and lasts longer than flowers) as they have also sacrifice…

Hi I'm looking into ordering some new table top games, ours are so old. We only have 2 new games the shopping game, which children love, and a lotto game. there are so many out there but we only have enough money to buy 3/4. I wondered which ones were a hit in your settings. The children are aged 3 and 4.

Room Tempretures

Hi, Just a quick question for you all. Our nursery is a very warm building and as you can imagine has been even warmer over recent weeks. Today one of our parents asked to see the thermometer and then said it was to hot 26C. (this is not our hottest room! Aside from having windows open, fans on and making use of the outdoors when it isn't too hot what more can we do. The younger children are also stripped down to sometimes just vests (babies). Does anyone know if there is an actual temperature that is officially too hot, just want to be prepared for the ineviatable (spelling?) complaint. Thanks alot Rapunzel

Ringworm

Has anybody else come across this delightful infection? A couple of children and staff had it just before we broke up for Christmas and we sent out letters to all parents with advice on how to prevent, identify and treat it. We hoped that the two week break over Christmas would stop it spreading further but when we came back today there are LOADS of children with it and one more member of staff as well. We've now arranged for someone from the local health authority to come and give a talk to the parents and staff but I wonder whether anyone has had to deal with a similar outbreak and, if so, whether they can offer any top tips?!?

Has anyone used this company. Apparantly they visit with small animals. Cost seems reasonable as well.I like the idea of an activity coming to us instead of arranging a trip out. I am trying to do think of some unusual cheap activities for 2007. We are situated in a small town center so regularly visit shops, post office and library.
