For those of you that provide a snack or tea in the afternoon - what time do you have it, and what is a typical menu for you?

I would really appreciate all your help. We are moving into a new building next year as part of the Sure Start programme, and I have just been told there is some money available for furniture/equipemnt (amount not confirmed). Great! Problem - they need my wish list by the beginning of January. I know I need new chairs and tables and some storage units, and we already have the day to day equipemnt, but what would you have in / out of your setting if you could have it.

Sleep Time At Nursery
by Guest- 7 replies

HI Ok, i know this is going to sound like a mad question but at sleep time do you always turn the light off? The reason i ask is in three rooms at nursery we do, but in one room the staff member has said she can't work in the room with the light off as it gives her a headache, so these children sleep with the light on. The light does not disturb the children, but im my opinion its not exactly a restful appearance with the light on... and i wonder what ofsted would say if it was left on at sleep time..... obviously i don't want the staff member to get a headache, but i wondered what others thoughts were about leaving the light on at sleep times.... gosh, thi…

Visual Timetable Story Line
by Guest- 6 replies
- 2.4k views
Hi I'm settling into a temporary teaching post in a school nursery and my boss wants to observe me using a story line (piece of yarn with pictures pegged on as the story develops) as I told her I tell stories with one sometimes. I am very nervous about being observed and she is coming at larger group carpet time (26 or 52) rather than small group 6 - 13 time. Many of the children are EAL a lot coming in with no English and I really want to try and capture their attention in this activity. I have been meaning to make a visual timetable for the children using photographs of them in activities through the session. I then thought it could be good to introduce this …

What do you have on the front door to your setting? Ours is looking a little tired and dull. There is a multilingual poster than was nice once, but is now faded, etc. Can anyone please recommend a nice poster and some other ideas for the door?

Cost Of Hot Lunches
by Guest- 1 reply

At the moment the children in my nursery either bring a packed lunch or pay extra to have a 2 course cooked lunch. I want all children to have the cooked lunch, and for it to be included in the price, with the annual fee increase. I am going to put the feelers out with parents before doing this, but I also wanted to see if any of you have any ideas as to rough costs on how much it costs to cater for approximately 30 children, across a week. We provide a morning and afternoon snack, and this is in with our fees, but I wandered if the hot lunches is feasible, if we do it more economically - which at present I don't feel we do, Any guidance?

by Guest- 11 replies

I am doing some research regarding overnight care of children. Does anybody know of day care settings in their area that provide this? So far I have only been able to find childminders that offer this service (and quite alarmingly some will care for children 24hrs a day for upto 14days!!! )

What Should I Do?
by Guest- 10 replies

I have been struggling in my setting for a while (I may of mentioned a couple of times!) basically the management structure changed in September with three members of staff becoming managers, me being one of them, I am finding it difficult to fit in as the other two colleagues are best friends and I am out on a limb (too many chiefs situation, and the other tow are often doing things I haven't been made aware of, yet there are lovely ladies and I don't think they realise how much they are blocking me out, have tried to mention it but they were quite offended) - I keep trying to be positive but have kept an eye out for another position, I really would prefer a deputy …

Back again, asking for help! This time we are looking for relatively inexpensive Nativity sets that could be played with by the children. Any idea where we might find them? I tried Early Learning without any success. Thanks
