Behaviour Advice

We have a child who attends our 3 year old group who displays extrememely challenging behaviour. He attends nursery for 4 full days ( 8 - 6pm) and appears to enjoy attention whether positive or negative in fact seeming to prefer the negative. He always rushes to tell mum the things he has done. He tends to hit out at other children (mostly when parents arrive to coect them) he slams doors, moves the furniture and tends to singleout the most vulnerable children to the point f terrifying them. We have tried to ignore all negative attention, seeing to injured child and tring not to react. The staff found this very difficult as in a nursery situation they feel it necessar…

Advice Please!

Hi. I have been in my setting for almost 2 weeks and in that time, I have been trying to build good working relationships with my colleagues. I am the baby unit leader, responsible for 4 other members of staff. Yesterday, my manager was on annual leave and the deputy was in charge. She hung around the baby unit a bit more than usual (ie, when my manager is there) and was very rude to one of the girls, resulting in her bursting into tears and unable to do any work for half an hour. I took her into the kitchen and asked what was wrong and she told me what had happened. I had already heard the deputy be rude to this girl once but somehow missed the second incident. S…

Outdoor Area
by Guest- 5 replies

We have an outdoor area, that is surrounded by railings. Nothing can be left outside due to theft and vandalism, so ALL equipment has to be taken outside at the start of the day, and inside at the end. Smaller items can be stored in a cupboard if we are not using them, but larger ones have to remain outside. This means that when the younger children go outside, there are often larger bikes and scooters, etc, that are completely inappropriate - naturally, the children are drawn to these items. I have seen one nursery that have their own baby garden, which is sectioned off from the rest, and which contains age and stage appropriate equipment. I am considerin…

I am looking at changing the way we report info about the child's day to parents. Currently, we complete an A4 page per day per child. Each page consists of a checklist which passes on information regarding meals, sleep, and nappies. There is also a space where the keyworker can add the activities a child participates in and also new achievements. The main problem we have with this is that we find we are repeating info as we also complete nappy changing charts in the changing area, sleep time charts in the sleep room and also the menus are displayed in each area of the nursery. The parents rarely read the children's diaries and it takes a long time to complet…

Eyat?

I am really sorry about this question, if it comes across as being a bit dim... Basically I am now researching outside agencies that get involved in settings. I want to write about the people that come in, usually from the local authority, who come in and tell you how to improve things, organise courses and training and that kind of thing, only trouble is, I don't know what they are called . In my experience these people are always referred to as 'the woman from early years' and thats it. Again, I apologise for being a bit slow tonight. Are they called EYAT or do they have a proper name? Thanks
