Can anyone help me by explaining your transition procedures, regarding children moving rooms within your setting. Our nursery consists of 4 areas: Babies, 1 year olds, 2 year olds and preschool. We involve parents as much as possible and have lots of visits to the room before the 'move date', but i feel that parents lose that special relationship they have created with the previous keyworker and never seem able to regain it. Also, some children take quite a long time to settle, even though they were completley at ease previously. Any examples would be very much appreciated

Christmas Activity For Bee Bots

Does anyone have any ideas for this? I'm thinking of a group of about children, aged 3-4, with 3 beebots between them. Ideally there should be an element of choice involved for them. The best I can come up with so far is mini Christmas parcels of various shapes & sizes that the Bee Bots are programmed to push along the floor. Can anyone think of anything a bit more inspiring? I would be very grateful and so would the staff & children!!

I have just been contacted by a provider to ask about the minimum space that there has to be between cots in a sleep room. I haven't come across this before, so does anyone know if it exists and what it is? I have done a google search and it picked up an Ofsted report where 'staff were aware of new guidelines for the minimum space requirements between sleep mats' but have been unable to find the report (the link was broken) or any further information on this. Any help appreciated! RB x

Hi all, had a bit of a werid morning at playgroup. A child had been absent for 3 sessions, i contacted the parent whom said her daughter had a cold, she would be returning soon. Ok so no problem there then. The child enters today, very happy, every thing appears normal, when leaving the mother informs me that her daughter had not been in as she had been playing up at home so her punishment was no playgroup. I really could not belive what i had been told, after picking my self up of the floor i weakly replied why what has happened, mum said she has been a pain, been rude & will not do as told .....& please can you change her reading book as she has had it for a wee…

hi all I currently run a sessional pre-school within a village hall, mornings only which i opened 12 months a go. I have lots of children who attend other settings because we cannot offer longer sessions (the hall is used by others) and also parents who keep asking if we can extend our hours. I have been looking at the possibility of opening a pre-school attached to our local primary school,(but run independently) which would offer sessions all day, 9 to 3ish for 3 - 5 years olds. (may also consider younger children, longer days, if theres a need in our local area) I have details from Lilliput Nursery, Portakabin. They are beautiful, but sooooo expensive, …

Found out today that ofsted will be arriving at school of Thursday for a two day inspection. Everyone is in a panic we haven't been inspected for a while and none of us are aware how it will work since the new style of inspection was introduced. Is there any of you out there who work in a school in the foundation stage who could enlighten me a little as to whats going to happen what will they be looking for etc? I would really appriciate it. Thank you

Hi, I am currently working in a Nursery attached to a school. The Nursery had a daycare inspection in July 2006 and the school is expecting Ofsted this year. Are we likely to get a combined inspection at the same time as the school or will we be inspected separately? Thanks
