Teeth Cleaning And Face Washing!
by Guest- 6 replies

I'm wondering what other people in full day care do for teeth cleaning and hand/face washing? I have been offered differing advice and it seems some settings use a wash bag with a toothbrush/facecloth/toothpaste inside while others only use wipes for faces. Another setting has a shelf in the bathroom with individually named disposable cups with each childs toothbrush in? What does Ofsted approve of? HELP!!!

Hi there now I know that some of you will have done the concentric circles so I am looking for some inspiration and ideas for next week. We have planned a colour recognition week and a focus on certain shapes. We thought of getting children to draw on large sheets lots of circles and then transfer this to paint, following at first a chalk outline of a circle... anyone done anything else that I could possibly used. I have seen a display photo in the gallery so any ideas of how you have used them after would be great... I feel that I am running around in circles at the mo having just started in Nursery

Does any one have any bright ideas on how to make our nursery toilets more child friendly or how to encourage children to be happy about going in there independently and using them. we have quite a few new starters this term who have issues about using the tiolet and won't even go in there or get very anxious about using them boys and girls. I have thought about putting up pictures posters etc does anyone else do this? or is there a health and safety issue eg all surfaces need to be able to be cleaned. It is a school tiolet for 3 and 4 year old children all ideas gratefully recieved.

Nappy Changing

HI are there any set guidlines for how often we should be changing nappies in a private day nursery. Currently nappies are changed at 11 and four and of course in between if they are soiled. we open at 7:30 and close at 6. so for some children that come in at 7:30 i think waiting till 11 for a nappy change is just a bit too long, and equally 11 - 4 is quite a big gap between changes. how often do others do nappies, do you change more frequently in baby room? also systems for changing, i have told all staff they have to wear gloves for nappy changingeven if nappy is only wet... do other nurseries have this 'rule'? Dawn

Free Milk

We got our free nursery milk delivered today, and when collected it from the doorstep, it was all Semi-Skimmed. I rang up the company and they said that it is a decision by the government, that it will now be semi-skimmed, and that I should have been informed of it. Does anyone else know about this?

Children's Cutlery

Please can anyone recommend where to get some decent children's cutlery from? We have a real mish mash of items. Most of the spoons are more suitable for babies. What we want is some cutlery for the older children so that they can spread their own toast, etc. Is there anywhere where you can buy it in a large set, rather than only getting 1 knife, fork and spoon at a time?

Hi We have a large church hall (just the one room), and a small kitchen. There is not a secure outside area, so free access is not available. We are open from 9am - 12 noon with lunch club 12-1pm Mon - Fri. We have to put everything away at the end of the morning. After children arrive we have an short "register" time and then free play until snack around 10.30 then back to free play until 11.20. Then we do some kind of physical (parachute, ring games, music and movement, "sticky kids", etc) but all the equipment is still in the hall - tables, chairs, book corner, sand, computer as well as other things. We have changed the routine slightly, but now we are squash…

by Guest- 3 replies

HI Our baby room is mega dull, and i want to sort it out a bit, in our baby room we take babies from 3 months to a year (6 babies a day) we have our cots in the same room the children play in and so far the cots do not have cot mobiles on them. Is this because ofsted don't like them do you think. I would speak to the deputy who has been there ages but she is away a week. so i wanted to know do you use mobiles in the baby room (that attatch to the cots) if so at what age of the child do you need to take them off.... obviosuly if i a child can stand then i would remove them, (the mobile, not the child LOL ) and what have ofsted's response been to you having cot mobi…
