Parents Lack Of Interest.

Ok it's a new term and new little ones starting, this is always an exciting time helping them settle in and getting to know them & their families. I opened the door to a parent with two older children and a child in a push chair. I greeted them with the normal stuff as you do. The two older children ( about 9 & 7 yrs old) pushed past as the parent said "Playgroup in here is it?" "yes i replied please come in and i'll show you around." We are hardly through the door when the parent says " right where do i sign?" I felt deflated I haven't told her about the setting, our lay out, our staff, our great activties, our trips out, our policies, let alone introduced my s…

I was just looking for an ofsted report for a preschool playgoup in my area. When I cliked on the website it had changed. I found it very useful as it showed you who had been inspected in your council area and when, very handy for looking up information for jobs. There is also a newsletter for early years, did not look at it thought needed to register but it is free. Beth

Hi All, Im opening up a nursery soon in south wales, and would really like some advice on the best sites to use to buy nursery equipment. I would rather pay extra and have equipment which is strong and lasts. As i am new to the nursery environment, i have researched what equipment i need in differant areas, but would welcome any suggestions, on anything particularly useful. I believe in offering the best quality childcare aviliable and would like this to be reflected in the equipment and range of activitios provided for the children. I would appreciate any help on this subject Many Thanks Ruth

Hi, I am moving to a Nursery in Sept and am busy trying to get displays etc ready. In my new classroom, the parents will come in through the cloakroom/Reception area. I really want to make this a welcoming area for both the children and parents - just wondering what other people have successfully included. Ideas I have had so far are . . . . . . a book display - selection of books that the children can borrow, brightly coloured pictures of books and (short) book reviews written by children, parents and staff. . . . children's names created in Word Art displayed on the wall near their pegs and an invitation to bring in small photos/picture of things that…

hello all, Just found out that church hall has put us an indoor entrance to our cupboard (only had outside doors up till now), put us a new side gate and tarmac some of the grass out the back!!!!!(so we can take the children out in the winter). This now means that we have a secure passage to the outside area that means in reality the children could go in and out as they please during the session. Those of you that already have this facility and use it how many staff you you have outside, as obviously there are staff inside as well. I am concerned that i cannot only have one member of staff out!!! thanks

I have had a lovely first day back at nursery today, never returned in August before but they tell us we will enjoy the two weeks off in Oct! To make up for it. Our outdoor area has been completely re done over the hols and we now have huge play pit with 7 tons of sand. I knew those wellies that I have collected from every jumble sale would come in handy one day. We have had no tears but nine wet pants and that’s after taking children often to the toilet! I’m sure having water and juice available all the time doesn’t help the younger children. The nicest thing today was when the reception teacher came in at the end of the day to thank us for doing a fantastic job, her n…

Thought I'd share with you what I get up to on a Sunday evening during summer holidays. I had loads of old Nursery Worlds but were loath to throw them out, even though all the planning, posters, activity ideas have been filed away for future use. What to do with the front cover, make a face collage divider screen. Am I sad or what????
