For those of you that have made these for your parents to borrow I have a couple of questions. * What sort of things do you put in the packs to support literacy and numeracy? * Do parents look after them and ensure everything is returned, what methods do you use to police this? * What other things do you put into packs. I am very keen to try and make some of these packs and am planning to do them as cheaply as possible using resources from certain websites and things bought cheaply from good old pound shops. Anything that I have to buy, print or laminate will be funded by some of our EYPP funding. All of your wonderful ideas will be greatly appreciated. :1b

staffing / deployment

my neice has started a placement at a nursery where she has noticed that sometimes certain children (those who are 19 + months) are in with babies, sometimes in with the older toddlers group ...sometimes changing mid day. Also their key person is not always in the same room as them and there are always different combinations of staff in rooms...staff do not stay with a designated age group. I think this must be because sometimes they have more of one age group in so they have to adapt due to ratios and shift patterns but surely there is another way to manage this?...but there seems to be a lot of chopping and changing for the children...and staff. or is this usual …

Can anyone who has been inspected recently tell me how long their report took to come through? My friend who had the same inspector said 'nearly a week'. It's been ten days now and I'm starting to get a bit paranoid. Cheers Honey

I was just wondering what everyone's policy was on calpol especially when a parent comes in and says they have give it at home. Would you record this down and if a child then needed it later in the day at nursery would you give it. Our current policy is not to give it if a parent has given in the morning.

Read the article here The above article is from daynurseries.co.uk regarding children as young as 4 years old that parent's have concerns about regarding a condition called Gender Identity Disorder (GID) In my opinion any child especially young child simply can't begin to make this decision, so why should parent's be making it?

Hi, I just wanted to start a discussion about different views on themes. I have heard differing views from leading professionals including they are good for language development and for children to be able to 'see' what they have learnt and then the other extreme, that they actually go against the statuary guidance which states that we must take into account individual interests. For the last few years (due to the requirements of my school), I have done very light-touch themes. I do mind-maps with the children to see what way they want to take each theme and then some activities and resources link to the theme. I do not change the whole setting or insist that every e…

Hi all, We have a number of boys who will spend ALL DAY going round and round the track on the bikes. A situation that I'm sure many of you are familiar with... Any ideas for extending their bike play? We had some road signs but they didn't last long with our boisterous lot... Thanks for your help! Xxx

We have £350 pounds to spend on resources/toys for two year olds. What would you buy? What resources do you have that benefit your two year olds and more importantly what do they love? (We take from two and a half) Inspiration needed please.

I've seen schools with the Ofsted logo, and their grading, on letterhead, and other promotional material. Do Ofsted have a shop or somewhere to download these images? Honey
