I am in the middle of a Hanen Course - (promoting children's social, language and literacy development in early years settings) I am now looking for more ideas on promoting peer interaction - what activities to do or use? I should have a reluctant child, ( one who doesn't initiate and has difficulty getting in on the act with his peers) and a fairly quiet child, but one that does initiate occasionally. I have thought of using the Brio train set (encouraging them to work together to set up the track), perhaps an activity in the sand or water - it should be something where they need to talk to each other about what they are doing, without me 'interfering' too much. Thought I would share this - we are currently doing All About Me as a theme, talking about colours of eyes today one little girl looked into my eyes and said "your eyes are RED and green", I have been quite tired lately and that confirmed how tired I must look!! A bit later on a different girl asked me if I had hurt my face, she was referring to the dark circles under my eyes, apart from that I looked great today!! Hope you all had a good day.

hello everyone! Next week is Art week and the school has invited a professional dancer an artist and a musician to lead workshops with the different classes. We also need to create an art display to go in the shared areas around the school. Any ideas? The work that we will display will not be linked to those workshops. Thanks

HI i hear so many conflicting view on this, what are we entitled to in terms of breaks... someone at work said that if you work a 9 - 6 shift your entitled to a half hour lunch break (paid). what we get at work (we have no morning or afternoon break) is an hour lunch however unpaid.... what is it like in your setting. I know at my last nursery i had a 30 minute paid lunch break, and at my nursery before that we had a thirty minute unpaid lunch but we had two 15 mins breaks (paid) in the day. how does it work in your settings. I work in a private nursery if that makes a difference? Dawn

Inappropriate Behaviour

Hello again Trying to put together a pro forma 'tracking sheet' to record incidents of inappropriate behaviours for a child who has special educational needs. Child has started to 'assert her authority' and is regularly pushing and 'neck holding' other children. After chatting with Area Learning Support teacher on a recent assessment of the child, teacher indicated . . "if it is not recorded, then it didn't happen" - moral of the tale - record EVERY incident, no matter how many times a session it occurs. Has anyone got a ready made sheet available, or shall I continue to make my own???? Would love it if someone has 'been there and done that' already. Looking forward to …

Parent's Newsletters

I am trying to find a nice and relatively easy way of making a catchy and bright parents newsletter as our current one is basically black and white with lots and lots of typing and no pictures. Has anyone any idea where I can find a template that I could use to make newsletters? I have looked on Clip Art but the templates there are a bit 'grown up' for our pre-school and we can generally fit all our information onto one page rather than 3/4. Thanks!
