We try to have a rhyme a week, and I'd like to do one for Easter, especially as we're a church group, but I'm not finding anything suitable. Usually they're just too long. Can anyone help?

Lesson Observations

Hi, I'm still relatively new to this website and haven't really posted before so a quick hello firstly! I'm Kate. Secondly, I'm not certain this is the right place for my query but here goes! I'm working in a school nursery and have was today observed for part of the morning session by a member of SMT with no prior warning. She walked in and said she'd be observing literacy - what was my focus? She then stayed for about 40 minutes and later gave me unfavourable and in my opinion unwarrented feedback concerning behavioural issues with no mention of literacy. My question really is - are teachers entitled to any notice before being observed and do they ha…

Yesterday a staff member rushed back to the hall as she thought that her purse may have dropped out of her.bag. She had realised this when she went to pay for her shopping. She then assumed that she could have left it at home but after searching her house high and low has not yet found it. I have known the staff present for many years. I have yet to speak to the student present on that day. Coats and personal belongings are kept in a corridor that is unaccessible to children. I feel awful for thinking this but I have never seen our student wear a coat or carry a bag but yesterday she put her belongings 9 coat and bag)with ours and I saw her coming out of the corridor yest…

I work in a nursery attached to a school with children aged 3 and 4 years. I would like your opinions and views on your tiolet training policies. If you too work in a school with pre school children. I have worked in schools for many years and the policy used to be that children needed to be out of nappies and using the tiolet independently before they were allowed to start school. Since the introduction of the disability act things have changed but we have had no definate policy in place as to what we should be doing now. As far as I know children don't have to be tiolet trainined in order to start school and this is causing us many problems at the moment. O…

Changing Facilities For Sen Child
by Guest bobby- 7 replies

Hi there, hope someone can give me some information. I work in a school nursery class of 39 part time children to 3 adults! We have admitted a 3 year old Downs Syndrome boy with his own learning support adult. It is all going well and he has settled in nicely. HOwever, we have to provide changing facilities for him and there seems to be great difficulty finding a suitable changing table that will fit into the restricted space in our toilets. There has been much tooing and froing and head scratching by the Borough's Surveyor. I would just change him as we do all the other children but we have been told that he must have special facilities. Does anyone know where …

hi all, just a quick question. the other morning we had a little girl who cut a chunk out of her fringe with the scissors on the craft trolley. mum was ok when we told her. mum came in today not very happy at all and asked how it happened etc. the main point she made was why the child is able to access the scissors from the trolley without constant supervision ( child in question is not allowed scissors at home - 3 years old) tried to explain free choice, access tools safely, child initiated activiteis and so on but she is going to write an official complaint about me having scissors avaliable to child and not as a set one to one activity. has anyone els…

Reading In The Nursery
by Guest- 14 replies

I had a conversation with one of our YR teachers today who was telling me how amazing her 3 year old's reading was. Apparently she has been reading CVC words of late & just this/last week has begun to read 4 lettered words such as 'frog' (don't remember what the correct term for this type of word is). She told me that the child brings home sets of words from her nursery which she is encouraged to use in a sentence. This got me wondering whether I should be doing more in our nursery to introduce reading. I'm sure she isn't a pushy parent & I think the child in question is probably very bright. I have it on authority that it is only a few children in the nursery who…

When Is A Student Not A Student? 1 2

We have a student who started with us early in the last school year (so 2004) doing a one year course. She asked to come back this year as she was now doing DPP. She describes herself as having special needs and we were quite surprised she was attempthing the DPP. Don't get me wrong she is a nice enough girl but she finds reading and writing very hard. She has a go and reading the children stories doesn't phase her it just takes her a bit longer! Anyway she has had nothing set from college, she does nothing without being asked - even if she was asked in the morning to say lead snack time, she would need telling at snack time too. We as staff are finding it hard work …
