Qualifications

Might sound like a really silly question and I might not have put it in the right place, but what qualifications enable individuals to work in settings such as day nurseries? By that, I mean if you are qualified to teach science, for example, does that automatically entitle you to work as a nursery nurse? Another bright idea of my place!

Parental Involvement

I'm doing a level 3 course and my next Assignment is going to be on effective partnerships with parents. I am wondering if anyone would be interested in sharing how their settings encourage active involvement from parents. The setting I am in has parents on the committee, and we also always ask parents to help out on outings, collecting resources for topics etc., but not much else! I've heard some settings have a parents rota and wonder how these actually work, and what do you do to try and involve those parents who do not seem willing, or do not have the time, to help out? All ideas, experiences and contributions will be gratefully received. Thanks

Hi, can anyone help please, We have desperately been trying to get hold of safety mirrors to go along the walls in all of our nursery rooms, they are quite pricey and we are struggling to raise enough money, we have been told about a protective covering that can be used on normal mirrors but we don't know exactly how safe it is and whether it would be cleared by ofsted. We have children from 6 weeks up to 5 years of age so need something suitable. If anyone can offer any advice we would be very grateful thanks

Hi Can anyone guide me into the right direction if anyone knows of a discussion about access into the building for parents please - if there has been a discussion. Tried a search but not coming up with what I want. Need some ideas of how to let parents into our setting. We are in a large 3 floor building with the top floor being the office and staff room, resource room. At the moment we have a keypad on the front door that the parents know the code of and which is changed regularly. Powers to be not happy with this, so need some ideas rather than having someone sitting in the hall - way all day opening and shutting the door! We have a bell on the door fo…

hi all, just wanting to see what the rest of you out there do in the same situation as us. playgroup, village hall, committee run situation 1: two weeks ago we had a weeks notice from our hall committee saying urgent repairs were needed on the ceiling and we would have to be out of the hall on that day. so we closed for the day. 2: before the end of last half term, we had 4 out of the 6 staff employed either off sick or with their own children off sick. (minimum of 4 staff needed every day for ratios) lots of children in who really wernt well enough (but thats another post) so i made the decision to close the setting down for 2 days (then it was end …

I am planning to subscribe to practical pre-school magazine. I've ordered a couple of books from them and found them very useful, however I've never come across the magazine in the shops to preview it. Does anybody subscribe to it and is it worth the £40 a year subscription fee?
