Hello all I'm on the scrounge I don't buy NW every week as I'm too poor! However the last one I bought had an article about preparing for Ofsted... Organisation. It was the end of the series but I would be really interested in seeing the others. I don't want to buy the 4 (presumably 4 anyway) back copies but if anybody has them I would be so so so grateful if you would photocopy the articles for me - I'll obviously pay for copying and posting. Cheers

To-day a child was brought in to-day looking obviously unwell. The person that brought him asked me to keep an eye on him because he had a temperature but had been given some calpol. The carer was astounded when I explained that it was unfair on the child and other children to have him attend. Her only comment was that he wanted to come. I shall have to display our infection control policy. I have noticed recently that children are attending even if they have been ill during the night. Am I being to cautious in expecting parents to give recently unwell children, 24 hours of normality before they return?

Visit To The Library- Help!
by Guest- 4 replies

Help! I have planned to take my Nursery (in 2 sessions) to the library on Monday. I have sent out a letter asking parents to sign and write who can accompany their child. (as I have had trouble with parent help before) Today most of the parents have come back to me saying they cannot come and they want us to take them, despite the fact that I said we have have a ration of 1:2 and we need people to come with us. Now I am a bit stuck, it will be a really nice opportunity for the children. Any ideas anyone?

Hi there, It has been suggested that we start doing home link books as we have a few children at our preschool where the childminder is always dropping off and picking up and they don't have much contact with the setting. We are not sure where to start. Whether we should fill them in daily, weekly, what sort of things go into it. Any suggestions would be hugely appreciated!!!

Can anyone answer this? I have worked in quite a few nurseries and all of them give the children lunch at 11.30. It seems very early and the staff I have asked havent known why. One parent commented last week that her daughter hadnt eaten her lunch because she wasnt used to the time yet and it made me wonder.

Help With Information For Staff
by Guest- 2 replies

Hi I am wondering wether anyone would be able to point me in the direction of some printable information pages on handling children's behaviour. Now obviously my staff do know our policy etc, but to help them consider the issue I would like to be able to supply them with some written info. I am having trouble locating anything much. We have one particular child who is needing a lot of assisitance and attention at the moment and I am planning a meeting with my staff to discuss this - so I'm almost looking for food for thought. Thanks if you can help. Nic x

Hi Next half term our theme is COUNTRIES we have done this theme in the past (a few years ago) and wondered whether to choose a particular country to focus on (one a week) this time - can think of lots of countries but wondered whether anyone knew of any which had loads of resources to accompany the topic? Also thought of trying to tie it in with world book day.

I have been looking through The Reflections on Learning catalogue. Their mirrors look really good for 3D effects but SO expensive. They do sell self-adhesive mirror tiles and I just wondered if anyone has used these.

Information For Parents

Hi all you lovely people. A while ago on this site I came across a 'parent friendly' explanation of the Foundation Stage / ELG's - have tried to find it but am having a problem (Saturday morning syndrome. . . .) I would like to give my new parents some information of what their children will be experiencing at Pre School, under the headings of each area of learning PSE, CLL etc. but in a jargon free approach. I know I've seen it somewhere, and I don't want to reinvent the wheel - hope you can help.
