I received a questionnaire for each parent. One of the questions asked what their preferred childcare would be. There was a variety of options,i.e. school, pre-school, childminder, pre-school and relative to name but a few but parents were not mentioned at all. Many parents were horrified that thet were not included in the option. I phoned the E.Y. to order more forms and I mentioned firstly that I was unhappy about asking parents to fill in their annual salaries and I mentioned that parents were a bit annoyed that they had been left out. A lady explained that they asked parents to disclose their family income to ensure they were reaching a wide range of people and pare…

One of the songs we are doing for our Christmas show uses the music to Is This the Way to Amarillo - we have a lady who is playing the piano for us - but as yet haven't found the music for just this one song. I was hoping that one of you lovely people might have it - if you have would you post it on here please - we would be VERY grateful. Thanks. Sue J

Who Wants Perfection!

Christmas began in our nursery this week and we started making table decorations. For this each child was blobbed a large lump of air-dry clay, a hole was made in the middle for the candle & the child was free to create patterns in their clay, chop bits out of it, or add bits (clay bits - balls & sausages etc.) to their masterpiece. On Tuesday I worked with half of our nursery children to get the basis of their decoration complete. Some children needed to be reminded not to fill the hole where the candle would go, but generally they were quite happy chopping, poking, rolling etc. The end product: some interesting pieces, quite obviously done by 3/4 year o…

Assessment In Nursery
by Guest- 1 reply

Hi! I was just wondering how people managed their assessment. I work in a school nursery and an NQT. I don't feel that I am doing enough assessment, in particular formal written down observations. No one has ever said that I am doing anything wrong but its just my gut feeling that if we were OfSted it would be something I would not feel confident about. I am being observed by the head next week and feeling a little nervous as I have planned a bit of a mish mash of things leading into xmas. Really would just like to hear how people manage things in nursery. Thank you Nina

Nativity Script Needed
by Guest- 9 replies

Hi I'm new to this and am so far loving it... lots of helpful ideas and it's really good to have somewhere to discuss issues to do with the FS, as at my school the early years (especially nursery) are rather overlooked. Anyway, I haven't got a problem as such but am feeling rather uninspired about the prospect of putting on a performance of the nativity with my nursery class. Has anyone got a good script with nice songs and not too much 'acting' required or any ideas of how to make it simple but lovely? Thanks Kate
