Positive Images Of Disability 1 2
by Guest- 31 replies

Hi During my recent Ofsted inspection, I was told that I needed more positive images of disability. The only thing I have found is a B&W photo of a very institutionalised pair of children, and the Balamory crew. According to the others in my area 'Positive images' is the current buzz word! Any ideas?

Pets At Preschool
by Guest- 14 replies

A member of our staff has been bringing her hamster into hte preschool each week and the children have loved him being there. They get a chance to feed him but don't handle him. Today the head of our local primary school was in the building and commented that they weren't allowed to have pets at school any more.... Does anybody know the rules and/or who we should contact to find out please?

Hi Would people share with me how they mark their registers please. We are a large DN and need to tighten our register situation ie. parents signing their children in and out with times. Does anyone operate their system like this and if so how is it managed in a large busy nursery? Would be really interested in the different ways registers are marked. Hopes this makes sense! Thanks Gem

by Guest- 4 replies

Hi I would like a dental hygienist to come and visit the children at my nursery to talk about keeping their teeth clean etc, as were are about to introduce teeth cleaning at nursery and I feel this would be a good lead. Now I know this has happened before but this was when I worked in Glasgow - I now work in Bristol. Does anyone know if this still happens and if so, how do I arrange a visit? I have made new fewer than 11 phonecalls today and I am still none the wiser!!! Anyone able to shed some light - pleeeassse?? Nic x

Use Of Jewellery In Role Play
by Guest- 9 replies
- 1.9k views
Hi folks! Just wondering what everyone does about using jewellery, particularly necklaces in nursery, i.e. dressing up & role play. My Mum gave me a few necklaces "for the children" (only cheap) which I haven't yet put out for risk of causing a H&S issue. Obviously their use would be supervised, but I don't know whether it's just safer to dispose of them? Thanks!

hi all, two of my staff went on BTTM training yesterday, came back and told me some very strange things 1) i shouldnt be planning at all (if only) 2) i should have NO structure what so ever, like a story time, or music and movement time - stories should be when the children wanted one -which we do but also have a quite story time at the end of the session. 3) that BTTM will soon be changing to birth to five or even six, and the BTTM and FS will all become one. but worst of all, 4) they were told that the lunches (im a full day care setting) shouldnt be at a set time and children should be able to have their lunch when they choose to. forgive me fo…

Inspiration Needed!
by Guest- 14 replies

Hi All, Our pre-school is in need of some inspiration as to what we call our rooms. We have three main rooms the children have access to. The first has table toys, jigsaws, small world and craft activities, the next is a large room where we have a climbing frame, the home corner, and the literacy area with writing table, computer and book area, and the last has the sand and water play, creative workshop and painting. We have decided that the names they have now are no longer appropriate-craft room, middle room and painting room. They are not very inspiring either!! We have thought of messy play but felt it didn't do justice to the activities available. This room, w…

Crazy Soap

I attended a phonics course today run by Helen Bromley(she writes for EYE). Very inspiring!! I discovered a product called Kids Stuff Crazy Soap. You can buy it from Tescos. Its in the bath section ( I had three members of staff looking for it. I was not going to leave the shop without it ) It is like shaving foam except that you can mould it. It cost £1.40 a can. Has anybody else used it? What other products do people use?
