Hello, I've just re-registered as a Childminder and after talking to my Early Years Support worker and having a little thinking time, have decided to give Tapestry a go. One question though: Those of you that are using it, have any of you come across parents that don't have access to a computer and therefore not able to use Tapestry? Also there may be some parents that would prefer the Scrapbook style learning journey? I'd be grateful for any feedback, Thanks, Anna

This short online module provides information on Channel and what your duties and responsibilities are in the process. You can print the certificate at the end of the course. You can do this module as in-house training for all members of staff as the names on the certificate can be changed before printing. http://course.ncalt.com/Channel_General_Awareness/01/index.html

I understand that most of you use the professional services for accounting purposes but some of you doing it yourself. I have several questions with regards to book-keeping. 1. How do you judge what toys go to Assets and what toys go to Expenses? 2. How do you record books? (I know in many cases books treated as Assets, however taking into account that books do not last long in Early Years settings do you usually put them on Expenses?) 3. Grants! I know even some accountants struggle with those Grants. Some Grants are taxable some are not, some Grants related to assets and some related to income. How do you record them? Ladies and Gentlemen from Kent, how do yo…

Hello everyone. At the end of the academic year you probably do your accounts, summaraising expenses and preparing a forecast for the new term. My question is how much on average you spend in a year on Advertising and what means of advertising you found the most useful? Our parents suggested to print some leaflets, but I have some doubts about this.

Hi all I could do with some quick advice. We really need a new member of staff for September. I have spoken to a lady who has a PGCE in education and loads of experience working with vulnerable families. However none of this is early years specific. I asked for clarification from LEA if this would count in ratio and qualified staff and basically they didn't answer just sent me a link and said check on equivalency website. The link doesn't work. I have tried to google it but don't think I am coming up with the right thing So can anyone help does a PGCE count not count? it seem crazy in a way that it doesn't when I look at all her experience

Opening a Nursery
by Guest- 2 replies

Hello, I'm new to the forum. I am currently a nursery manager and currently being transferred to a brand new nursery of our chain. I am looking into opening my own nursery. I want to use this current experience as a stepping stone so I know what to expect. I went through an Ofsted inspection last year as manager and got a Good (I was sent to the nursery as it was on an inadequate) so not too worried about that part but I have never done a registration before so want to see what this is like. Any advice welcome to opening your own day care. I enjoy the chain I work for but have more idea's that I want to call my own.
