we send out 'reports' twice a year for the preschool children in my setting. this does not include the leavers whose parents get a copy of the record of transfer. the forms are headed 'all about me' and have headings such as 'things I like at pre school' and 'things I am still practising'. we would like to change this format as it comes across as quite assumptive for us to say what the children like etc. does anyone have other formats for this, we have wondered whether we should base it more on the record of transfer, linking it with the six areas of learning. any comments very welcome please! sandie

Chill Out Music

Over the past couple of mnths we have started using relaxation music as a background for play. We started it for us but have found that it is providing a much calmer session. We ask at the begining of a session if the children would like music on and then what would they like. They seem to enjoy the relaxation music and will play and dance to it. We don't use it every session but do find when the little darlings are testing our patience, we put it on and within 5/10 mins, the mood of the room has changed. I know in some schools they use this method. Net

Key Child Transition To School..
by Guest- 9 replies

Just wanted to have a bit of a moan and see if anyone can give me some advice. Although I work primarily with the 2-3 yr olds, I am also key worker and 1:1 support for a young child with Autism. He will be 5 soon and willl be starting school full time in Septmeber. Mum has managed to get him into a local mainstream school, (although I reckon he may have some troubles getting on in a class of about 30 mainstream children). At the last review meeting I met the SENCO at the school and we talked about helping him to make the transition. Today Mum has been to the school and it is being rushed through so that he now starts part time after the half term holiday. He will still be…

hi I am new to this forum so bear with me!!!!!!!! I am a Nursery teacher of 6 years have also worked in a special school and in years1 and 4! have now found where my heart lies. Have recently been excited about a resident artist scheme that a parent, myself and the staff have been working on. Influenced by Reggio emillia and High/scope! We've recently applied for and have been succesful in gaining an arts grant for a large amount of money!! So exciting but my head is swimming! I've had sleepless nights! Must admit I have planned so thoroughly to the elg and stepping stones and although they are not set in stone i rely heavily on my planning and assessments for evidence…

I am applying for a nursery teaching position, I'm just trying to think forward to the interview, if it gets that far, from reading the job description, and I think the buzz words are going to be: English as a second language SEN Equal Opportunities EAL - I will mention things about valuing first language, providing dual language texts, lots of visual props / story aids, Equal opportunities - well, will mention positive (but not token) images around classroom, celebrating and valuing different cultures and events, making classroom accessible.... SEN - not sure of the 'right' responses to this question any ideas welcomed...

i know this topic has been partially looked at before, but does anyone have any good suggestions about the daily routine for full time nursery, I looked at a school yesterday that had a double unit nursery where the children all attend full time, this seems quite unusual to me, and it must be quite hard at the beginning of the year, just wondering how the routine is different from a part time nursery setting. Would welcome your ideas....

Hi there. I'm looking for inspiration with my Rising 5 time. We do 15 mins at the end of every session. I'm looking for any ideas really and especially easily set up ones with few resources. Thanks in advance.

At the moment some of my feeder schools have only 1 intake the others have 3 intakes. I know that some of the latter have requested to have 1 intake. The mixed intake works well for children on the waiting list because they can start throughout the year and children already attending can be given extra sessions gradually. If all schools had only 1 intake I would have to fill up all the spaces in the Autumn term to ensure sustainability I would offer funded children 5 sessions in the Autumn. My next intake would be a year later. Could some children be denied a pre-school place at all ? I have found recently that many parents of rising 3's wish to delay their childs admi…
