Hello everybody, Iwould like some of your wonderful advice please. I am an NQT in Nursery and had a new little girl start last month. Mum spent a long time telling me how clever her daughter is and how she can read already. She wanted to know how was i going to progress her daughters reading skills. After listening to her daughter 'read' her book from home it was obvious she had memorised the story and was unable to point to individual words or recognise any words in other books. She is unable to hear initial sounds too. I have managed to steer clear from this subject with Mum up to now, but i know she is going to ask eventually. How can i tell her that h…

Hi All, just wondering if you could post and give me some idea how many of your settings have a seperate home corner as well a a themed role play area. We have ours as a florists at the moment. After having the early years advisor in this morning she said that most settings are offering this now, well not the ones that I know about !. We do have a seperate role play area in the playhouse outside. Thanks for taking time Jackie

I was approached by a parent last week, she asked to take her child's records home with her, as she says, she did this at the other pre-school her child attended. I've never been asked this before and informed her that she was welcome to look at them at the Pre-school but not to take home. What does everyone else do regarding this???? Angie

by Guest- 21 replies

I just wondered what type of milk everyone provides for their preschool - we currently provide whole milk, but our PDW has recommended we change to semi-skimmed as the children are probably getting enough fat in the rest of their diet. Carolyn

Templates

We are not aloud to use any templates in the setting. Children have to drow and cut everything by themselves. I understand that product is not important, it is the proces. but, for example, if learning objectiv is math and we making ladybird with spots it is going to be frustreting that we make children to do shape that they can't. Some of our children haven't got sccissors skils. Local school use templates! What do you think? I am interested to see are everybody else working under same rule?
