Hi all, Just hoped you could all give me some insight in to how the rest of you deal with settling in 2 1/2 yr olds. I recently had a little girl start who was extremely shy and cried hysterically when parted from her mum. She couldn't even bear for her mum to walk across the room, needing to follow her everywhere. Without going into the whole story the long and the short of it has been that the mum has withdrawn her daughter from playgroup but she has complained that I didn't do enough to settle her child in. So tell me what I should've done!!

Parent Helpers 1 2

We had a parent helper in this morning to help out. Because of the good weather we took all our activities outside (water, sand, building blocks, chalkboards, painting easels to accommodate 4 children, as well as all the outdoor equipment) they also had access to the main room, where there is a computer, sticking and glueing, mark making table, computer, home corner, book corner, cafe style snack bar, and several castles. All areas were well supervised. FREE FLOW PLAY between outside and inside. The parent in question who is a lovely lady mentioned that she's concerned that the lack of structure will mean that her child will find it difficult to settle into recep…

Hi. My first post here. This year for Christmas we are putting on a performance for parents and we are deciding on what songs the children can sing. I'd love to do 5 jolly snowmen with them but have forgotton the words and the tune it is sung to. I can remember when I was a student children doing it one Christmas at another nursery and it involved them melting when the sun came out. It was a great song and I know they had 5 of the children wrapped up as snowmen and another doing the chimes. I think the other children played bells along to the song. I can remember it was a really catchy song! I've been trying to find the words and have found another version but not this on…

I am sure we all have arrangements in place for what to do in the event of a fire. We have a procedure, including how to evacuate the building, where to go etc etc etc We have had many 'practices' but staff always knew when they were to take place. I found that on 'fire drill day' we were waiting for the alarm to go off and also found that when the time was iminent we tended to have the children together for a story or large group, non messy activity. To me it defeated the whole object of the fire drill. Of course I hope that it never happens for real but the reality is that in the event of fire the alarm will sound regardless of whether the children are in split in…

Hi Our early years partnership have just introduced a wonderful box that has lots of sheets for training plans in. My few sheets covering all courses for all staff is no longer satisfactory, now they want our training put down in at least 4 different ways. Anyway, I have never had a full Training Policy, neither Ofsted nor Accredication said that one was needed. However, the partnership have now asked us to produce one, so please, has anyone already got one that I could see, or even better use? thanks mobbster

Hi all, after a meeting with the head of our local primary today there is talk of us sharing his premises, not sure exactly how yet, he wants a nursery but with out shuting us. Anyway he's open to all ideas but the deputy said the regulations would be different to a playgroup and we might not be able to run it. Are there any differences? I'm not sure never having worked in a school nursery.

I am concerned as when a parent is asked to collect their child from nursery due to them being unwell, we will always advise a visit to the doctor for a clean bill of health before returning... we are positive on some occasions that they are not being truthful when they return the following day saying everything is fine (probably down to the child becoming ill around 11am, after the calpol has worn off!) We almost feel like asking for a note from the doctor Also, we also feel we should actually complete a form for the parents to take to the doctors explaining what symptoms the child is presenting Does anyone else have certain procedures for when parents take th…
