Hope this is in the right place! You may know already but I havent seen it mentioned anywhere but the "Hundred Languages of children" is on a UK tour - I can't wait and luckily for me it is in Cambridge which isnt too far for me to travel. As far as i know it will be visiting Manchester, Newcastle, Cambridge, Kent and Birmingham spending about a month at each one. There are workshops and seminars and all sorts!!! You can find more details onwww.sightlines-initiative.com

thought i would start a new thread as the last one had a lot of (very interesting) responses. i would like to place my views in response to some of the issues...... and just to say that i respect the views of others and have no intention for my comments to be considered as attacking or otherwise offensive, they are simply my views. one of the references was about other children being distressed by the sight of a child being tube fed - i think its important that this is not hidden from children or disguised, but explained in a way that is understandable to the child in very simple terms - this way it shouldn't be distressing for other children to see. Previously w…

Making Sense Of The Five Senses!
by Guest- 7 replies

Cn any one help me be a little clearer on what to include in our plans to cover the five senses..... it seems that National Curriculum Guidance for the Foundation Stage do not include "taste", where as they do include "feel" along with "touch"! To me feel and touch are the same, unless "feel" refers to "feelings" which to me would be an emotion rather than a sense........ and why no mention of a very important sense, that of our "taste"! all those lovely excuses for snacking! Surely this isn't due to all the allergy and special diet needs that are common now, if so it seems to be a very limited way of dealing with this issue. Look forward to your help.....

I am considering studying an NVQ 4 in Early years. Can anyone inform me of how much work is involved? I have studied NVQ 3 in EY. I am studying E123, Working with Children in the Early Years at the moment. Do you think taking on both would be too much? I work in a pre-school, mornings only, so I have afternoons, relatively free for study. Thanks angie

I have quite a few children reaching the age when they will need to have their booster injection (which contains polio). We promote hand washing after using the toilet. Once we know that children can manage themselves and wash their hands they come and go as they wish. They are supposed to tell an adult when they want to use the toilet but some leave it to the last minute and haven't got time to mention it. Should these children be excluded for a few days what do you do?

Childrens Work

Following on from my question on nursery routines I have another query.(well actually several on the same theme) Do you always have childrens work up on display? If so is the work labelled with names ? Are there other displays with childrens contributions which are not labelled? Do you have explanatory notes accompanying displays? Are the displays planned ,with the activities aimed at producing the work - or do they just happen ( when a skill building exercise produces some work that would be good to share for example). Im asking because the nursery where i am on supply for a few weeks has no childrens work on obvious display . There is littl…
