Hi not sure if this is in the correct place but would love some advice. We have a child who is 4 who has been attending since January and has not stopped crying since! I have created routine cards with her to show the time and can now tell me what is our routine is. Reassured her that mummy is coming back and she knows that mummy is coming back. We have tried with mums support to provide rewards for when she does not cry and this has failed. We have tried ignoring the behaviour and she carries on regardless. We have tried being firm and say stop crying but to no avail. Recently mum told us that she is having twins and the crying has got worse. Talking with mum she sa…

Hi all We have noticed our children are low on their Shape recognition, using shapes appropriately etc. I am planning to do different shaped toast etc. at snack time, and shape hopscotch instead of number but then I have ran out of ideas! Has anyone got any child initiated activities or games linked to Shapes that have worked well? We have a mixed group of 2-4yr olds, we are planning on getting younger children to focus on 2d shapes and older children more 3d shapes. Thanks :1b

wanted to start a bit of a conversation off about what and when you tell the children about transition. Let me explain...... We sent out letters to parents a few weeks ago suggesting that too many conversations at this time of year about going to school may not be helpful as it is 1/4 of a year away and we find it just worries the children ...however our local school has done the opposite and suggested having lots of chats/reading stories/getting dressed in uniform etc etc etc. The parents are now in a quandary about what to do. I realise all these conversations will happen over the next couple of weeks but i'm still not sure that winding them up as much as this is ver…

Foundation CIO

Hello We are looking to change our status. I know there is the option of becoming a CIO but saw that trustees can only be in place for two years. This gives us less stability with the committee than we already have. I recently came across the Foundation CIO which looks better. Does anybody know if a childcare setting is allowed to be run as a Foundation CIO?

Hello again, I am taking over the managers role and I have a long (to do/to change )list so that's lots for me to focus on but I really wanted to know what other settings do when celebrating birthdays. I do not think sharing 3 or 4 smarties with the children after singing happy birthday is good role modelling and I feel this habit needs to be changed. What does everyone else do? We already do use healthy snacks during the session but I'm thinking of a treat for these occasions. Thanks

Nursery Reports

Hi, Meeting with my new Head next week and want to come armed with ideas for this brand-new school One of my issues is with reports. I am concerned about the possibility of having to write 52 long-winded reports on my own next year. Our current nursery is much smaller but do the classic 6 areas with 6 big blank spaces for comments. I am of the opinion that this is an unnecessary waste of time as the nursery parents do not expect want or need this amount of info esp. in areas such as KUW, physical and creative. SO was wondering if any kind souls out there would be kind enough to PM me with examples of reports that are quicker to write for Nursery. (was thinking …

Has anyone had experience using this with pre-school age children? I am thinking about using it to support EAL children so we can "read" stories in their home languages. Are there any other similar devices available? Any feedback/advice gratefully received!
