Could anyone help suggest a few behaviour strategies I could give a parent around their child telling lies. Its a hard one because I don't want the child to stop talking but its about knowing what's the truth and whats made up.

I was just wondering how many of you use email to communicate with parents. I recently did a newsletter which either just got left on the side or left in children's bag or staff even forgot to give it out. Feedback from a questionnaire I need was they wanted more communications. I'm thinking of asking parents for an email address and using this to communicate more with them. Do other just use email or paper or a mix of both?

From BBC news:The party says it would provide an extra £116m annually to the early years pupil premium received by nursery schools and childminders for poorer children. This would more than triple the funding given for each underprivileged child to £1,000. The Lib Dems say they would also require higher staff standards, encouraging nursery workers to work towards gaining qualified teacher status. Now obviously I can only agree that funding needs to improve, but why can politicians not understand that our funding issue is a result of insufficient funding for all funded children. .....qts.....now where did I hear that before......oh yes now I remember, it was suppo…

Observing staff

Hi there I work in a CC and we are looking regularly as managers at observing the 'Stay and Play' groups. But just thinking ahead of how we can ensure consistency and introducing a piece of paperwork that is filled in by management. Anyone got anything similar? Or does anyone have any help/suggestions to include?! Thanks in advance!

I'm conflicted as to whether a request by a parent that their child wears a helmet while outside in the playgound is a sensible precaution or an unnecessary imposition on the child. These are children between 2 and 4 and this particular child will be the only one wearing a helmet. There is no medical factor involved. It would be very helpful to have your views.

Hi all we have very limited storage at pre-school and so I have to store a large amount of our resources and equipment at home. This is taking over 2 sheds and the spare bedroom! So I've got a few questions: 1. How do you store things e.g by topic, area of learning etc 2. How do you remember what resources you have got 3. How do you know when to throw things away (we got given a huge amount of toys from a local stay and play group and a lot of the things I cant think when I would use them but should I get rid???) Any more advice most welcome xx

Staff sickness - bank staff
by Guest- 11 replies

Hi Does anyone else have trouble getting staff to cover sickness? Do you use agency staff and if so who do you use? There are only 2 of us and we both feel the pressure that we cant take time off for our own illness /childs illness as we only have one bank staff member (she covers other settings also). I am going to speak to other local pre-schools and nurseries to see if they could help out. If you have a larger staff team do you find it difficult still to get staff in on those days they don't normally work?

My first post. Yaay!! Can anyone who is in a packaway nursery please advice me on the best way to heat it. What heating system do you use please? Our landlord is quite strict so we can't have anything permanent but need something efficient enough to really heat up a large hall. Any ideas or suggestions will be much appreciated. Thank you
